“Nice Hotel and Great Golf Course”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2011

I recently took up golf (wife) so I thought it would be a good idea to take some professional lessons before I got hooked into a bad swing/putt, etc.. After doing some research in our area of Southern Wisconsin, we found this place. Now my husband and friend golfed there in early April, before the trees leafed out and it was cold as heck. Also the new 9 hole Valley Course had not yet opened. They thought it was nice then, but nothing spectacular. Well now with the trees and flowers in full bloom, this place is absoutely gorgeous! Lots and lots of wild flowers, rolling hills, bluff and valley views, etc...Wow! We got a great rate at the lodge, $69/night with free golf each day you stay (you only pay cart fees), plus 4 golf lessons each. Luke, the golf instructor was very good and really improved my husband's swing with his new hibred and his woods and drivers. He helped my swing and grip and my confidence! Just a beautiful course and great people! The lodge it'self is very clean, with large rooms Wish the bar would have been open. We didn't use the Waterpark, but it seemed to be a popular place! All in all, can't wait to go again in the fall when it's a bit cooler!

Room Tip: Call and ASK about their specials.

My son and I (along with some of his buddies) stay here every year. We love it here. It has the best whirlpool I've ever used. Rooms are rustic and clean. The staff is very frindly and accomodating. I don't golf but after tagging along with friends on this course, I can see why people like to golf. Very beautiful and relaxing course. A big improvement was adding the Rusty Nail Saloon next to the pool. We truly enjoy Deer Valey Lodge.

The view was absolutely breathtaking when we walked around the hotel and golf course. The entire facility was absolutely immaculate. Staff was very helpful, friendly and professional. Our 2 boys loved the pool, slides, etc. and the great food from the bar.

Our night at Deer Valley was incredibly relaxing after some crazy nights stay elsewhere during our WI trip. The staff was so incredibly nice and helpful. I was amazed. Not sure on they children running and taking over the hotel, because I did not witness that. My family including children 10 & 7 enjoyed the waterpark and did not feel that there was inappropriate use of facilities or inadequate supervision of amenities. Then again, when did that become solely the duties of the hotel staff and not the parents/adults that those children belong with? Irregardless, our rooms were so spacious and so clean. Our shower was so clean it literally sparkled. It was quiet and peaceful. Staff recommended places to eat and even gave us why the recommended them. The staff gave us the paper and answered all our questions regarding the area. They seemed knowledgeable of the area and what families expected. Although we did not golf, we truly enjoyed the beautiful views of the course. The indoor waterpark was a treat that the kids truly enjoyed. There were only about 7-8 people there at about 7 pm. The hot tub fit 17 people. I also noticed that the lodge put some of the responsibility on those that stayed at the hotel to assist in keeping things clean/safe regarding requesting showers before entering the pools and again after stating safety reasons for patrions. Requesting that towels in rooms not be used and those in park be put in bin when finished. Their thoughts of wasted energy as well. They even request respect of others staying in the lodge and have quiet times in community areas, which I think just goes to show you how much they think of their client's needs. Kuddos to Deer Valley!! I applaud them. The beds were comfortable and I would recommend to anyone and everyone. Plus at breakfast, people were literally going through the food/drinks like hotcakes. Staff never slowed down replinishing those. There was a line for waffles....couldn't keep everyone supplied fast enough. I've never seen anything like it. In my experience most people have limited choices and pick at the food any way. Not here. I actually left there thinking that I was obligated to send them a gift/thank you note. :) My best gift is to post what a nice treat this was.

Room Tip: Stayed right above balcony area on a Sunday night. All was quiet.

We were visiting Mount Horeb and hotels are very limited in the area. I was a little surprised at the high room rate but our choices were non existant. As we pulled up to the lodge, it is just a big rectangular building with a waterpark attached on the inside. The parking lot was full of mini vans with families using the waterpark and there was a wedding reception taking place also. On the positive the front desk staff was excellant and VERY friendly, they were working their butt off but yet maintained a very positive/friendly attitude and made you feel like you were the only one getting their personal attention. The rooms are large and very clean. The golf course adjacent looked very nice. This is a family oriented facility. As we were just passing through it was a little bit of a surprise how nice the rooms were, if you were driving through it is a place you would not typically pick but the locals suggested it . It was not loud as one would think with all the kids and a wedding party going on. My only down side was the High rate for the room.

We just stayed here one night. This place is only suitable for families with small children who want to run wild in the water park, chase each other up and down the halls, slam the doors, and make a lot of noise all night.

The rooms have not been redecorated or upgraded since who knows when. We had booked a room with two queen beds. The mattresses sagged so badly in the middle that there was no way we could have slept on them. The front desk was accomodating in that they offered us a suite on the third floor at a reduced price. Which was fine, except that it was snowing that day, and the suite had not been occupied for a week, so it took hours and hours for it to warm up to a tolerable level. Which was exacerbated by the cold air blowing in from the very loose windows.

The place badly needs to be repainted, recarpeted, the mattresses and linens tossed out and replaced, new windows, etc. With that, you would have a very average hotel--the posted rates are outrageously high--can't believe anybody actually pays those prices--we paid much less with an internet special rate, and even that was overpriced for what we got. The food and drink offerings looked to be very mundane--again, it seems to cater to families with broods of kids who are probably happy with frozen pizza. A very disappointing experience--thankfully, it was only one night.

The signs in the elevator re "quiet hours" are not to be taken seriously.

I apologize for not exceeding your expectations during your recent stay with us.

With a 12,000 foot water park we are suitable for families with children. We also have a 27 hole Golf Course that hosts numerous outings, weekly leagues, as well as Stay and Play Packages for Hotel Guests. We are also very proud of our beautiful Banquet Hall overlooking the Golf Course that hosts many weddings events each year.

We apologize that you felt our quiet hours were not enforced. Our quite hours begin at 11:00 p.m. and most small children that are in the halls are in bed by then, and rarely do we have problems with guests not abiding by these rules. Our front desk is trained to enforce the quiet hour rules and is on staff 24/7 to handle guest complaints and concerns when it comes to quiet hour issues. We have taken this opportunity to review our quiet hours policy with our night auditors and reminded all staff about the importance of enforcing the rule.

The hotel is still fairly new and has only been open for 5 years. We are constantly trying to improve the Lodge and value your feedback to help us do this. Recently we repainted all the rooms and hallways. We take pride in having a clean hotel and have our carpets in the rooms and hallways cleaned on regular basis. We closed down the Water Park for a week in March and repainted the entire Water Park floor including the water slides and water features. Thank you for your feedback on the mattress condition, we have not had any complaints prior but will check all of them and replace those in need.

Our facility has our own Chef and kitchen staff that prepares food from scratch from our Banquet Facility. Due to the large number of events we host our main kitchen is not open daily for hotel guests which is why we have the Rusty Nail Saloon adjacent to the Water Park. The Saloon offers a crowd pleasing food menu as well as Homemade Pizzas. The Saloon is not meant for fine dining, it is a place to grab a beer and a burger after spending a day in the Water Park. For hotel guests looking for finer dining or other options we have a restaurant guide available at the front desk that has a listing of all the restaurants in the area as well as menus and pricing.

We are glad to hear that our staff was helpful and attempted to make your stay pleasant. We strive to provide a positive stay for all our guests. We hope you will give us another opportunity to accommodate you in the future if you are in the area again.

Just a short distance from Madison. Very nice when traveling with young children. The pool
area feels very safe with lifeguards and size to keep a close eye on children.
