“Just OK”
Reviewed April 23, 2012 via mobile

Stayed here on a Saturday overnight. All went well at checkin. Requested a king. Walked the far walk to our room only to find other people's belongings in there. Luckily no one was in there. Calmly had to lug all my bags back the desk only to get a I'm sorry that room is showing it was available. Felt alittle uneasy that a simple mistake lets you into someone else's room. So we get the room across the hall. Still with all my bags with me and the far walk back, it's 2 queen beds. I didn't feel like arguing since I was tired from my 3 1/2 car ride to get there so just dealt with it. Room was clean and updated. Comfortable bed. Read a past review on the horrible smoke from casino. My clothes and hair stunk from the smell. It was nice to breathe fresh air when we walked outside. Think they need a better air filtration system or something. Overall, would go back cause I love the casino.

My husband and I booked a 3-night stay during the busy Easter weekend and agreed to a handicapped room (#3312), however after a night we found it just didn't work for us (too akward, no microwave, terrible TV reception, no hotel info. binder, small vanity and tub.) The next morning we switched to a "premium" room (#2209) for a $20 per night upcharge. It had a tiny microwave, smaller fridge, smaller bathroom, larger vanity, shower only and an extra chair. Otherwise the room was identical. We discovered (not the hard way :) the coffeemaker had 1" of exposed wire on the cord and maintenance promptly brought a different one but it had even more frayed and exposed wire!! My husband said he always wanted to own a casino! :-o Anyway, after they brought the third one (new in the box) we had worked up an appetite, so we decided to order room service. The buttons on the old room phones are still meaningless and when finally connected to someone relevant they had no idea that room service had begun or what was on the menu, as usual. Nevertheless they politely took our order only to immediately call back and say they had computer problems and could only deal with cash. Really?? I explained that when we checked in we were asked if we wanted to leave our account open for incedentals, so would they please figure it out. They didn't know what to do, so the "manager" called me who agreed that cash was not their policy, asked what I ordered and said she would call me right back. After waiting almost a half hour, we decided to pack up and cancel the rest of our reservation. No compensation or satisfaction was offered by the "manager", front desk staff or anyone for that matter - so sorry have a nice day basically. This hotel still lacks the professionalism, customer service and decisive management that could make this a great place, but it is connected to a casino so it doesn't matter, they will come anyway...sigh. The rooms have been nicely dressed-up (althought cookie-cutter) along with the prices, but service is as bad as it ever was....like lipstick on a pig.

Room Tip: Not all rooms have microwaves. Check electric cords on all appliances. Room service is unreliable...

We stayed at the Ho Chunk hotel at the casino for a long weekend. The rooms were very nice and clean. We noticed the smell of smoke immediately when we entered the hotel but did not smell it in our room. Overall the facility was very nice. We went to Devil's lake state park for some hiking- this was very fun. Also went into Wisconsin Dells- lots to do at all the attractions and the outlet mall.

First time stay, very nice room we had first floor King bed with nice walk in shower. Large moveable desk and a stand up counter vs your standard low dresser with mirror.Fridge but no microwave. Only negative is the smoke smell still lingers on. Staff was friendly overall.

The remodel has greatly improved this hotel. We had stayed last July and it was badly in need of updating. We found the new bathrooms, closets and luggage racks helped update the rooms. The hotel is all non-smoking now -- although there is still a faint smell of smoke in the walls. New beds were comfortable. Big flat screen tv replaced the old fashioned tv's. Still could use more drawers. The drawback of the remodel is that the prices went up -- they now charge by how far you are from the casino with the closer hall being the most expensive.

Room Tip: second hallway is best value.

We stayed at Ho-Chunk hotel/casino a few days ago. The newly renovated rooms were quite nice, with a balcony (too cold to use though). Everything was done very nicely. Our 4th (top) floor room had vaulted ceilings which was nice too. When I booked the room they had an option of a "luxury king room", which they explained was the same as a king room, just better location, closer to the casino, etc. Come to find out, we were basically at the farthest possible point in the hotel....not worth the extra $30 for that "upgrade"...but still happy with what we had. Bathrooms were nicely done as well. The only issue we really had was that even though we had the temperature set to 68 degrees, it never got below 72-73 degrees. It just seemed like only warm air was coming out, so it was a little warm for us at night. We would stay here again. Plus it's about less than half the cost of most comparable resorts in the Wisconsin Dells.

Room Tip: Don't pay extra for the "luxury king" upgrade, just go with the standard king...not wo...

We were at the Casino last weekend and based on a lot of good things we had heard about the new remodeling from friends who had seen it we walked over to the hotel. We went down the corridors and asked a few of the cleaning people who were in open rooms if we could take a quick look. Really nice remodeling with beautiful wallpapers and fabrics that were used. The beds are plush and comfortable. The bathrooms were also beautiful with granite counters and wood and more beautiful wallpapers and artwork. We will definitely plan some more stays when we are up next. We also heard that there are new suites that are really nice and that would be a fun idea for having a family or friends weekend for some birthday or other get together. We are looking forward to coming back. By the way, we enjoy eating in all the restaurants on site when we are there. Look for the steak house which is really good but hidden on 2nd floor. They also have some very good entertainers that come in to perform. Whether you like to play in the casino or not, we think this is a great place to have a nice stay for a weekend and enjoy a good dinner and breakfast.
