Beautiful state park. Loved the tumbled rocks trail (easy). We arrived early on Saturday morning (8:30ish) and the parking lot was practically empty ... by the time we were done with hiking (12:00ish) the lot was full ... arrive early on summer weekends.

I have to say, we LOVED this park. It's gorgeous and offers so many activities. I highly recommend coming for a day trip or a camping trip.

Our only issues (which turned out to be a HUGE one) was that the hiking trails were marked but incredibly confusing.

One trail seemed to bleed into another and we got horribly lost.

There are numerous trail heads and trail markings but nothing that directs you back to the park (which would have been incredibly helpful).

We thought it was just us but when we ended up on a service road that was essentially a few miles outside of the park (it was a cross country ski trail) we happened upon another couple who had had the exact same problems on the trails as us.

We commiserated and tried to get our bearings and figure out together how to get back to the park. They chose a trail and we chose the road. It was getting late and we didnt want to find ourselves lost again.

We made it back and were happy to have seen ourselves through quite an adventure but the truth is, we set out for a 1 1/2 hour hike that turned into over 3 hours.

Nobody got hurt but we could have and that's what scared us.

We'll go back again and we'll hike the trails but what we will not do is assume that like most trails, ours will loop back to where we started.

Bring the map they give you when you enter the park. Although still a little confusing, you'll be grateful for the aid.

Getting to this park is a 2 hour drive, but it is always worth it. Great hiking and very clean swimming beach. Families with young children will love the cute little nature center. We went camping there the week after the 4th of July and the campground was only about half full.

My fiance and I went 2 days in a row. The first day, we went kayaking. My guy had never been kayaking and I figured I was in for an adventure but this place is perfect for beginners. It's gorgeous and a perfect size to kayak all the way around. We also set out to do a little biking. They do not have biking trails but we decided to bike up hill to the camp grounds. The camp grounds looked large enough and are in a good location from the lake. Hiking on the second day was wonderful! Beautiful view and a nice, clear trail. The gift shop/concessions was large, their merchandise was reasonably priced and the food choices looked good. The staff their was very nice but the kids that ran the boat rental seemed lost and forgot to give us our deposit back....but then again...this may be their first job. Which would have been an awesome first job!
