First of all, as far as light houses go, not impressive. Adults are $6 and kids are $3. Which doesn't sound too bad, until you realize it's an extra $4 per person to actually go up. We spent all of 5 minutes on the actual light house, and the rest of the time on the rocks around the lighthouse, which weren't very impressive either. I would not waste my time!

Thanks much for your review. We do our best to use all visitor feedback to spur continuous improvement. We recognize that the unique natural beauty of Cana Island and its historic light station are not for everybody. We are sorry to hear that you didn't find the historic keeper's quarters or unusual multi-sided oil house intriquing and educational. We sincerely hope that you did garner some measure of enjoyment from the trek across the natural stone causeway (it's not often one gets to walk on the bottom of Lake Michigan!) and your exploration of the rocky shores of the island. Please know that a portion of all admission goes toward an extensive restoration project slated to kick-off next spring. Please plan a return visit in a couple of years after the restoration is completed to give the historic Cana Island Light Station second chance to impress. When your return, take the time to scale the 97 steps of the light towers impressive sprial staircase...it's definitely worth the extra $4. Thanks again for taking the time to generate a review...we'll do our best to make use of your impressions to improve.

Very cool lighthouse with a lot of history. I did not climb the 97 stairs to the top and now wish I had of.

Ahoy! Thanks much for the wonderful review...we are thrilled that you enjoyed your visit to the historic Cana Island Light Station. We hope you'll make a return visit in the not too distant future to make you climb to the top of the light tower...it's a unique experience and the view is extraordinary! It's fun to imagine what it must have been like for the lightkeepers of old to make the climb carrying buckets of oil! Thanks again...

Climbing 97 steps up was worth every muscle ache later. The view is spectacular. The history of the old lighthouse is so interesting and there is plenty of literature, videos and staff there to answer any questions. The rooms downstairs, especially the kitchen were wonderful to see what life was like there. The letter on the wall upstairs reprimanding the lighthouse keepers rude wife was fun to read.

Thanks so much for the great review!! We are thrilled that you enjoyed your sojourn to the historic Cana Island Light Station. The climb to the top of the light tower is truly a unique experience, and as you say, well worth the effort. We hope to get started on additional restoration work to the lighthouse and other historic buildings in the spring...stop back by to see how we're doing. Thanks again.

Iconic Door County view. There is a charge to visit the grounds and additional fee for going up into the lighthouse. Take the walk out to the water and walk on the rocks for another great view. Nice to see that they added a parking lot.

It was a nice light house, but it wasn't anything too exciting. It's nice to stop at though if you have some time to spare.

Ahoy! Thank much for the review. We hope you got a chance to make the climb to the top of the light tower and enjoy the amazing views from the gallery deck and see the historic Fresnel lens that has been sending its guiding beam out to mariners since 1870!
