Cana Island Lighthouse is a beautiful sight on a pretty, sunny day. We enjoyed walking the grounds, seeing the lighthouse from all angles. Since we've been to many other lighthouses, we didn't pay the fee to climb to the top, but I'm sure the views would have been lovely. We did enjoy the museum exhibits on the ground floor level of the structure. A lighthouse volunteer/employee offered to take our photo in front of the lighthouse; we really appreciated that -- so nice to have a photo of the two of us together on our trip. Cana Island Lighthouse is a great stop on a day sightseeing along the Lake Michigan side of Door County.

Not a very busy museum, yet parking was very tough. Beautiful grounds and great walk down to the beach. Fee to enter the park didn't include the walk up the spiral staicase to the top of the lighthouse. Great views all around, plenty of Cairns on the beach in front.

Ahoy! Great to hear that you enjoyed your visit to the historic Cana Island Light Station. Good news! a new parking area adjacent to the natural stone causeway leading to the island will be completed in spring of 2013...it will definitely improve the parking challenges. I guess parking wasn't much of an issue when the light was built in 1869. Cheers!

I am interested in Lighthouses so my wife and I decided to visit this place. It is an interesting Lighthouse and you are able to climb up to the top of the Lighthouse for a magnificient view of the area especially when we went during the Fall Colors. Be aware that there is a charge to visit the Lighthouse and an extra charge to climb up to the top, but it was worth it. Would recommend visiting this place for anyone to see.

Ahoy! We're thrilled you enjoyed your visit to the Cana Island Light Station. Please know that a portion of your admission charge will go to the restoration of the lighthouse and the other historic buildings. The million dollar restoration project should get rolling sometime in 2013 and will be phased so visitors can continue to enjoy this very unique historic site.

Had a great tour of the lighthouse. The guy at the top was very informative and thorough. I would go back. The water was so low than in most recent years that we got to see part of some steel from a shipwreck. Nice walk from the parking area to the actual lighthouse. Parking is limited.

Thanks so much for the wonderful review...we're thrilled you enjoyed your visit to the historic Cana Island Light Station. The record low water levels this year have exposed stretches of beach & lake bottom not seen in decades. A new parking area adjacent to the natural stone causeway leading to the island should be completed in spring of 2013, making parking much easier. Cheers!

Even if you're not a lighthouse lover, this is an interesting visit. The guide did a great job of telling stories about the lives of the families who lived here.
