“Slow in September - which may be okay”
Reviewed September 29, 2013

We took a day trip to Madeline Island in late September. The ferry to cross from Bayfield to the island was $50 for our car and 2 people. We did bring our bikes as well. There was not much going on at that time. We took a drive around much of the island. (We did not go on the gravel roads as we had a new car - so I cant share much on that - but people we talked to did say that they saw plenty of deer and eagles). We did hit the boardwalk near Big Bay Town Park (I may have the wrong name!) But it is at the north end of the State park. It is free to park there. It has a beautiful beach to walk along (narrow though) and there is also a boardwalk that goes along the beach as well. If you did not know you were in Wisconsin, it looked like you were at the ocean! We did ride our bike a little through the town (pretty easy to get around at this time of the year).
The town was not very busy at all. I wonder how busy it gets during peak season...

“Madeline Island with kids”
Reviewed September 27, 2013

My husband and I took our 2 daughters, 10, 8 year olds to Bayfield, Wisconsin this summer. The drive from minneaplois was around 2 and 1/2 hours, but we didnt stop very much until we got closer to Bayfield. We spent 3 days in Bayfiled, which was plenty of time. We brought our own bikes with on our car, so we were able to bike all over town, ( what a good leg workout with all the steep hills) We brought our bikes over to Madeline Isalnd for the day and found we covered most of the downtown terrain after about 45min. So, we decided to head to the national park and hike around the beach and trails. What a great time that was! The kids loved finding all sorts of things on the beach, and we loved watching alll the people kayaking. I wished we would of made the trip up when it was closer to fall however, I bet the trees colors would have been amazing! There is a great spot in Bayfiled to sit rooftop and grab a drink and sit on comfy couches and watch all the sail boats. Very relaxing family trip.

“Breezes blow comfort on Madeline Island”
Reviewed September 16, 2013

We recently spent two days on Madeline Island, after having spent two days in Bayfield, Wisconsin. From the short ferry ride to the quaint village of LaPointe, the two days were terrific. The State and Town Parks of Big Bay were beautiful. Don't miss an informative walk on the boardwalk. The town itself has shopping, unique bars (Tom's Burnt Down Cafe) and good restaurants. It's not for those who are looking for exciting night life. But the natural beauty, friendly people and interesting sites (don't miss the local museum) is well worth spending time on this beautiful and unique island.

“Fun day”
Reviewed September 15, 2013

We took the Ferry from Bayfield to Madeline Island. Left our car on the mainland and rented mopeds at Motion to Go! That was lots of fun. Rode the 7 miles to the two state parks which we really enjoyed. The scenery is beautiful. There could be a little more shops and eateries at the ferry dock area. It was end of season and only a couple of the few stores were open. Ate next door the Motion to go which wasn't good at all. Cold meat sandwiches on stale bread which was pricey. Still all in all a great day!

“Very fun for an afternoon on mopeds”
Reviewed September 7, 2013

We took the Ferry from Bayfield to Madeline Island between 2pm-3pm. We left our rental car parked near where the cars drive onto the Ferry, and we walked aboard. The less-than-a-half-hour ride was breezy and very pleasant, with nice views of Madeline Island as we approached. Motion To Go (bike and moped rentals) was just a block or two from the post office, a short walk from the Ferry dock. We rode mopeds to the state park and back, thoroughly enjoying the ride and scenery. There may be prettier islands than Madeline, but we couldn't have had a more fun time and it's an island that is so darn easy to get to from the mainland. Our entire trip to and from the island, including riding mopeds, took just a few hours.
