“Great Value, Great Location”
Reviewed August 14, 2008

My boyfriend and I were looking for a near-by, inexpensive location for a mini-break. Wheeling seemed like a good fit as it was only a 2-3 hour drive from NE Ohio and had a variety of interesting attractions (Oglebay was by far the best with the grounds, museums, golf and zoo --- but the casino is very nice, too --- and there are lots of little tourist traps to get lost in like Cabela's).

We chose SpringHill because it seemed like a nice hotel in pictures and reviews and was a decent price for a suite. We stayed for 2 nights (Thrusday - Saturday) and loved every minute of the hotel!

Obviously it is brand new, so everything is clean and fresh. The staff was very friendly and available 24/7 for assistance. Not being familiar with Wheeling, the front desk attendant gave us great suggestions and directions to various restaurants and attractions.

The rooms are spacious for a studio suite. The small kitchenette area has great storage and the living room area is cozy and comfortable. The beds are huge and the bathroom was adequate - I was hoping for a whirlpool tub, but it really wasn't a huge disapointment.

Continental breakfast was served everymorning with a generous array of food - fruit, pastry, cereal, yogurt, eggs, protien of somekind and the do-it-yourself Belgin Waffle makers.

Every Friday and Saturday night - the casino runs a shuttle service to the area hotels. It runs from early evening (around 6) unti 2am. It was a great ammentiy and very appreciated!

We did not get a chance to use the gym, pool or hottub - but we did look at them - they were smaller than expected but very clean and appeared to be in good working order.

If and when we return to Wheeling, I would stay at SpringHill again in a heartbeat, it was a lot of nice hotel for an even nicer price!

Hotel is new and it really shows. The overall cleanliness of the room was good but the bathroom needed a bit more cleaning. Apparantley the guest that was in the room had some bathroom problems and the commode still showed the remnants.
The rest of the hotel was clean and staff were extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the area.
The indoor pool is on the small side but we were the only ones in the pool so we were fine. The water was cold. Being inside the sun cannot warm the water and could be heated for more enjoyment. We did have to sign a waiver when checking in saying we would not hold the hotel responsible if we used the pool and anything happened. That was a first for us. We stayed at another Marriott hotel in early July and did not have to sign a waiver.
Overall, I would stay here again.

Recently open accomodation establishment on the top of a hill (which is good from the point of view of wonderful views around but not great when you climb on the hill by feet returning from nearly located restaurant for instance).
Quality is everywhere though as this is a part of Marriott empire. Almost no complaints except that the "swimming pool" is size of a sink which is ridiculous being presented by hotel as huge advantage.
Other items are great or quite good - rooms are enormous, soundproofed with large LSD TV, breakfasts and overall newly opened state of premises are much better than nearly situated Hampton Inn.

We were in the area visiting the local colleges and chose this place due to the area in which it sits.

The place is new, so it's al nice, clean, working order, and wonderful. There is an indoor pool which is small, but there is a back deck which is very nice.

Security seems ok with card keys required for all entrances except main one. Our room was HUGE with plenty of room for three long legged teen boys to relax.

The only problems I encountered was that upon check in, I was not asked for AAA/AARP or other discount and had to actually stop the desk clerk (who got agitated at the request) to put it on the AAA rate. She huffed and sighed, but complied. She commented, though, by saying "Well, that only dropped the rate to XXX." What did she care if I only saved $5? It's MY $5 to save.

Also, the breakfast buffet is fairly normal for these establishments, but whether it was coincidence or not, two of our boys ate sausage and got sick about two hours following that meal. The ones of us that didn't eat sausage did not get sick. That was the only commonality between these boys, and they are not related, so it wasn't a family illness.. I found that odd. Personally, I don't eat things like that at buffets or bars due to foodborne illness. I can't say for certain that it came from there, but it was certainly coincidental.

All in all, I would certainly stay here again, but I"d eat at Tim Horton's down the hill.

This place is a few miles from Wheeling Island casino and racetrack but there is a shuttle that runs from 8 pm to 4 am on weekends and we used it to get back and forth when we needed to. This hotel is quite new and very clean with a nice breakfast in the morning. The room we had on the 5th floor was nice and clean (523) and couldn't have been nicer for our stay.

Great place!
