Good, we enjoyed both items -pulled pork and brisket - sides were excellent. Hostess (originally from DC) made the visit with her personality and answering our many questions. Service was good and we were pleased with our second choice.

You will find the best homemade dishes! Just like your mom and grandma made. Come in, it'll be worth the drive. All dishes made to order-so, sometimes it takes a lil longer to prepare the food but comparable to chain restaurants such as Outback and Texas Roadhouse (minus the number of staff: Hickory House is locally owned and day to day operation runs on a staff of 6-9 people; with the volume of business, they do very make sure everyone is happy and the food is fabulous), there is about the same wait time on a busy day, possibly, not even as long. A very inviting atmosphere.

After reading about the Hickory House on TA, we decided to stop for lunch. There were six of us in our party. We arrived around 1:30 pm and it was very busy. My husband and I decided on the pulled pork barbecue sandwich and coleslaw. The sandwich was very good. It comes without barbecue sauce. You have two choices of sauce on the table, a spicy sauce and a sweet sauce. I found that mixing the two made a good sauce. The coleslaw was dry and tasteless. My daughter ordered the brisket sandwich. Once she removed the fat, there was very little brisket. She also ordered the green beans, which appeared to be canned. Our server was not welcoming or friendly. Not sure we would return.

From the reviews I had read, I expected great food. It was good. First of all it is hard to park. On a weekday night it was hard to get a place near the restaurant. Once inside one was faced with the fact that not everything on the menu was available that day. Still they try hard and the custard creme pie was great.
