I've been here twice, with very different experiences. First time was mid-morning, it was bustling and I had a good experience - prompt service, good food. The second visit was at 1 pm, an hour before closing time, and it seemed that they were disappointed that we were interrupting the staff lunch. We had to wait to be served, the food was disappointing and they ran out of coffee. We were also very conscious that the floor was dirty and the vinyl floor covering was torn. Conclusion - if you want to eat here, make sure it's at least 2 hours before closing time!

If staying in Canaan, and the ski weather is a challenge, Drive north to the hamlet of Davis for several hours and then just a bit north is the ancient village of Thomas. Soon the road will split, and take a sudden U-turn to visit the "commercial center."

Don't blink! The Flying Pig is on the left and offers Mom and Pop grub. Service is fine, and the Flying Pig defines quaintness. We like a late breakfast, and we often will order the Rueben.

The Flying Pig beats McDonald's hands down.

They made a great breakfast, done just right. Pan fried potatoes, crispy bacon, perfect eggs, and good coffee. They even have a gluten free option for the toast. We were in Thomas for two days, and we went back on the second day. Service was great and we liked the atmosphere.

Just had sweet potato pancakes and biscuits and gravy and a homemade blueberry muffin. The food here is so fresh and good. But it is the staff that makes it. Real, authenticly friendly. You know they are not faking it. Just a pleasant positive experience and with great food and coffee.

Doesn't open until 8 Am for breakfast and then you have to wait a half-hour for the help to fire up the grill! Only open for breakfast and lunch so that gives you a 4-hour window if you HAVE to eat here! Owner is not friendly- very East Coast cold and business-like. Not what you would expect in Thomas, WV!
