“A great weekend getaway in West Virginia”
Reviewed August 23, 2007

Summersville, W VA is home to Summersville Lake, located directly on Route 19. It is a damn built by the Army Corp of Engineers and is considered the Caribbean of the East Coast. You can camp, rent a cottage or stay in a motel while here. There is great swimming, scuba diving, and boating on the lake. There are places to rent a pontoon and spend the day on the lake. The water is crystal clear and the scenery is stunning. You can jump off the rocks into the water (only allowed to now jump as long as the rocks are not higher than 6 feet) or just relax. There is also a park with horshoe pits and the New River Gorge recreation area is just 20 min away. There are not many good restaurants in this small town and be sure to obey the speed limit!! This is a great place to come for the weekend. Bring your boat as there are numerous boat launches.

“Small Friendly Town”
Reviewed October 27, 2004

Summersville is one of West Virginia's little secrets. It's quiet, peachful, and slow paced. However, if you are looking for adventure it's right up the river. Whether you are into nature or not, it is all around you. Summersville could use some more Mom and Pop stores, since that's what I look for in a small town. The people are hardworking and friendly. The Food is the Best. I was sorry to see Farm and Fleet and Anglers Roast close down, they had a lot to offer for the hard working guy for a reasonable price. I travel to Summersville to see family a few times a year and I always take something home with me, even if it's just a cantalope from Beanies Produce Stand or a Candle homemade by Holley. It is worth the 6 hour ride for me.
