Allegheny Springs

My boyfriend and I booked here for Valentines Day and Presidents' Day weekend. We actually stayed a total of 5 days. Would've preferred to avoid the mad rush of the weekend crowd (kids running up and down the hall at all hours)...but nonetheless we had a great time. ;) We could walk downstairs and ski off. Our condo was perfect for the two of us. I'm a germ freak and it was very clean when we arrived. There is daily "maid service" but they just make the beds and replace towels...no extra cleaning. But not a big deal. The condo was stocked with any utensil you need...full pots and pans to cook with. We brought our own groceries and alcohol which I highly recommend as there are no real stores close by. Restaurants are walking distance so we did eat out a few times...but it's nice to have breakfast and other meals on hand to save $$. The condo could probably sleep 4 comfortably and 6 in a squeeze but we were fine as a couple. Nice gas fireplace. Wifi available in lobby. If you have Verizon...forget comms. No service anywhere on the mountain! My one big gripe for the price of the condo were the old school tube TVs!! The Olympics were on... And due to the antiquated tube TVs we couldn't get the full picture! Flat screen TVs aren't that expensive and the condo owners should seriously upgrade for what Allegheny charges. It's 2014.
Other than that: we had a great time. Jack the concierge was great. We would definitely stay there again.

We stayed at Allegheny Springs for 6 days including President's Day weekend. Our experience was overall positive. We were 6 family members and had a deluxe 1 bedroom unit and a deluxe studio unit on the same floor. The units could be more updated, but are in relatively good condition compared to other places that we have stayed. The advantages are ski-in/ski-out with direct access to the slopes from the locker room. Depending on where you are staying in this sprawling condo complex, this can be quite a trek, as it was for us. There was no elevator access to the locker rooms on the basement level, so you have to go down/climb up a flight of stairs to get there. Another advantage was the restaurant on the basement level, which is not at all advertised in any of the hotel's literature. This was a huge plus for us, since it was very cold and snowy. We were able to go down, put our names on the list (since they don't accept reservations at any of the restaurants in the village) and come back a few minutes before the estimated wait time was over to be seated. The restaurant is Mexican, Sunset Cantina, and had good options on the menu. The housekeeping staff was very nice and friendly, but housekeeping is definitely "light" and not what you would expect when you are paying those prices (not up to hotel standards). It consisted essentially of bed-making and towel changing. There was no vacuuming and the bathrooms weren't cleaned (a quick clean of the wash-basin at the very least would have been appreciated). But this was a minor irritation. The hotel was extremely nice in allowing us to stay beyond the normal check-out time until 1 pm since the rooms were not going to be occupied the following day. We really appreciated their generosity with this. I would definitely go back to Allegheny Springs in the future.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom den + for 4 nights in February 2014 - unit 410. There were 7 of us and it was a bit crowded, but we made it work. The hotel is very nice. We arrived late - about 9pm and no one was available to help with luggage. We got our own carts and headed to the room. You can also get your lift tickets at the desk here. Beware that your cooler may not fit through a couple of doors on the luggage cart. We finally got it turned a little better and fit through. We were on the 4th floor with views of the village. We were probably in one of the farthest condos from the ski locker which made for a longer than I wanted walk in my ski boots. They have a great heated pool and hot tub. We spent an hour or so each night in that hot tub. At times it gets so full with people that the jets turn off, but it was great. The people were all nice and would move over to fit us in. Several of us got into the pool also to cool off from the hot tub. ha ha. I would recommend getting right back in the hot tub though! I think it worked wonders for my old unused muscles! The staff was very nice and would bring us solo cups for any glass bottles. No mention of no adult beverages, just no glass! The ski locker is a few steps off the slopes. The slope side locker at Highland House is better, but this one will do fine. I like the hot tub/pool convenience at Allegheny better. They do have a hot tub at Highland House, but it is well hidden and we never found it until our last night there - last trip. The desk staff at Allegheny was great and would give us towels for the hot tub and answer any questions we had. We checked in there at the hotel which was really great. The parking is outside (not covered like some of the condos in the village) and across the main road. Be sure to unpack the car while checking in. The Ballhooter lift is the most convenient and also the most crowded on weekends at Snowshoe. Our condo was really small for 7 people. When we had the sofa bed out you could not use the fireplace. Luckily, it was dry for our weekend skiing, so we didn't have a bunch of jackets/gloves/socks to dry in front of the fireplace. The balcony was great and had a beautiful sunset view and view of the people walking in the village. Starbucks was right across the way if you want to buy your coffee. The shuttle stop was a short walk, but took some time carrying the skis. Snowshoe is the best place to ski in the southeast and we always feel lucky when we have a year we get to go. The fridge was small. We took all our food for a 4 night stay and ended up having to use the coolers we brought for our drinks and some food. The maid service daily was nice and they would come by early to refresh our towels and take out the trash. We didn't really care about the beds being made. We took a single blow up mattress just due to the fact that we had teenage boys and one preteen girl with us...so she wouldn't have to sleep with the boys, but there was not much room to blow it up. One of the boys ended up not coming so we didn't need it, but that won't work for us next time. We may have to have a 3 bedroom. I can't say enough about how nice and what a great location Allegheny is in. Next time we will pick a slope side condo closer to the locker or ask for one of the first floor condos right at the hot tub! Another note - which my husband told me not to tell - ski at Silver Creek on Saturday afternoon. The lift lines were really reasonable there! We can't wait to go back. This condo is a little more expensive than Highland House, but I think we'll splurge on it next time too! Opps, another note...we could hear people in the village Saturday night...when we were sleeping. From past trips, I would rather be on the village side because the CAT machines that groom the slopes during the night wake me up.

Room Tip: Choose a slope side room near the ski locker for better slope access. Choose a village side room fo...

At over $300 a night for a two bedroom with a lockout, this isn't a place for the cost conscious. However if you like having some space to spread out and like having a kitchen, it is a fantastic stay. You can't beat the location either.

Allegheny Springs helped make our first visit to snowshoe a great one

Spent four nights in a studio but our friends had two bedroom next door. So this is a tale of two rooms. First, studio is fine for a couple not a family. There is a pull out but it would seem that this would work more for the single "buddies" trip vice a family. The kitchen is just fine. My suggestion is a family - one bedroom is minimum requirement and "buddies" trip then if you go with a studio skip the kitchen (your are probably not going to cook anyway). Regarding the two bedroom very nice. Large kitchen, dinning area and just apres ski lounging area. Great for two families. Stayed at a couple of other places at Snowshoe and Allegheny Springs by far the best. Easy ski out and back in and at the Village.

Room Tip: Views to the west have outstanding sunsets.

We celebrated Valentine's Day at Allegheny Springs! The view overlooking the mountains and the center of the village was beautiful. It was sort of like in the movies ... So charming, cozy and surreal. Customer service was amazing! Make sure you meet Jack at the front desk and get advice from him! The staff in general was great! The place was clean and had everything you need to spend a few days.
Definitely stay at Allegheny Springs!

Rented a three bedroom condo for 4 days in January. Allegheny Springs is in the heart of the village at Snowshoe. You can ski to/from the door. The condo was first class with a nice kitchen, equipped with all the things you need, as well as all the amenities you would expect - flat panel TV's in every room, even speakers for your Iphone and Ipad. The unit was clean and neat, with daily maid service.

The best part of Allegheny Springs is the service. The staff is simply the best. There was a problem that prevented us from getting into our condo by the usual check-in time. As we waited in the lobby, the manger came over, apologized, and suggested that he buy us all dinner! After an enjoyable dinner at the restaurant in the building, we came back to the lobby and were taken directly to our condo. That kind of service is very rare these days.

Unlike some of the other condos at Snowshoe, which use a shared "mountaintop check-in" Allegheny Springs handles check-in at the hotel. They can issue lift tickets in the lobby. Their staff handled every question and request, completely and professionally.

The skiing at Snowshoe is as good as it gets in the East Coast area. The village is on the top of the mountain, where it can get cold and windy. Don't let that stop your skiing enjoyment, because the wind dies down as soon as you get off the top of the mountain and onto the slopes. Dress warm and bring ski masks because the temps can get down to zero.

Great skiing and great service. We will definitely return to Allegheny Springs next year.
