Owner description: Start with an 11,000 acre playground serving up the best of the mountains, however you like it. Your days here are like having dessert first. Our Village is situated atop the mountain and gives you access to spa-ing, shopping and even dancing. It all feels better at 4,848 feet.

Snowshoe Mountain Resort has some of the best skiing in the mid-Atlantic region and entire east coast. It's kind of remote, out in the middle of nowhere in West Virginia, but generally has colder temperatures and more snow than other ski areas in the mid-Atlantic. And with so much area for skiing, it is not as crowded and congested as other ski places I have visited. We went last year and had a great time so came back again this year. There are three different areas for skiing - Silver Creek, Snowshoe Basin, and Western Territory. The Silver Creek area tends to be the least crowded with short lines for the lifts, so this is where we start off to practice and get used to skiing again (we usually only ski once a year). This area is also the only one with night skiing available, so both evenings we came back and skied here. And we never really had to wait in line.

The Snowshoe Basin area is the main area and largest. Sometimes the lines for the lifts can get a little long, but they usually get them moving pretty quick. It is possible to cover quite a bit of ground here, as the trails tend to criss-cross the area. Thus, you can go up one lift on the north end and ski down the trails to a lift at the south end and then back. This makes the ski runs a bit longer (for east coast skiing at least) so you spend more time actually skiing and less time waiting in line or riding the lift. Refer to the trail maps and trail signs to figure out how to get around. Unlike most ski resorts, you start at the top of the mountain (where the condos and stores are at), ski down, and then take a lift back up. We had a lot of fun here on Sunday, when there were fewer skiers. I even dared to try a black diamond - Widowmaker, after some guy on the ski lift told his five-year-old daughter did it. The last area, Western Territory, has only two trails, a black diamond and double-black, which have 1500 feet of elevation loss over about 1.5 miles. This area is for more advanced skiers and I wasn't brave enough to go here.

We were on our way to Sunday River in Maine when Snow storm Nemo scuppered our plans. We then headed for Snowshoe, with no reservations we arrived at the Mountain top checkin where Jenna was a star by sorting us out with a very reasonably priced junior studio in Expidition Station, slopeside.
The village is lovely reminds us very much of Whistler. The runs however are few and short, our 9 year old who has only skied on one trip before decided to practice on the black run "Widowmaker" which would have been rated an easy blue in Europe.
However midweek there were no queues on the lifts and if you don't need a challenge then it is the ideal resort to practice your style and develop your technique.

As Brits, we are more wine drinkers than beer drinkers. We like to have a few glasses of wine in our room and a nice bottle of white with sandwiches for lunch. YOU CANNOT BUY A BOTTLE OF WINE IN THE RESORT. That I find absolutely crazy.
How can you spend millions developing a lovely village and fail to have a shop in the village which caters for a huge section of your market by selling wine?
We ended up driving down the mountain 26 miles each way to a town called Marlington to get some bottles of wine.
Now that I know it won't stop me coming back but I will make sure I have bought enough wine on the way.

This was my third trip to Snowshoe and we had a great time. Snow was great, resort is beautiful. They're trying to update the lifts to make them faster - the high speed lifts do help the crowds. We did experience some waits at the bottom of the hill - you're better off going during the week if you can swing it. The restaurants were VERY overcrowded - you're better off bringing your own food and eating in - a lot of the rooms have kitchenettes and have plenty of space for that. Overall we loved it. I'll be back again!

My wife and I go to Snowshoe each Februaury and have always had a great experience. The staff at Allegheny Springs was extremely friendly and helpful when we arrived. The staff at the rental place at Expedition Station was great as well. The only complaint I would have is for them to have better signage when we walk in there so we know exactly what line to be in. The skiing at Silver Creek was great, no lines and we went up and down the mountain in less than 10 minutes. Skiing the next day at Snowshoe was a little more crowded but the conditions were good because it had snowed at night. Hot tun at Allegheny Springs was just what we needed at night especially with a cold beer. My only complaint about our room was the mattress was horrible, especially after a couple days of skiing. I kept waking up because the bed was so hard. The restaurants are all average and serve the purpose but nothing special. I would suggest eating early or late because on Saturday night the waiting time at EVERY restaurant was over an hour when we went at 730pm. We always bring stuff for breakfast and lunch is easiest at Shaver's Court, its a food court with good food. So again, we had a great time and cant wait to come back next year. Maybe this time, we will shoot for the middle of week to get more runs in. Also, dont get a room on slopeside unless you want to hear the snowcats all morning.

Went with a group of Coast Guard members and got a giant discount on rooms and lift tickets. We couldn't have asked for better weather conditions while we were there. Tons of fresh snow every night and perfect temps. We stayed in camp 4 in two different condos and the places were perfect. We brought our own groceries too and used the kitchen allot and saved some extra dough that way. We did however have a couple minor complaints:

1. The hot tub door was locked and had a key broke off in it so unless someone was already in it, then you either climbed the lattice to get in or you didn't go.

2. The run from the camp to the slopes were closed so we had to do allot of walking in ski boots to hit the slopes.

3. The grooming blowers ran 24 hours a day just outside our condo and one of them was right outside our master bedroom and living room so the guys sleeping in there didn't get the best of sleep due to how loud they were.

Great place, great slopes, amazing trip!
