I had a great time with my family at the Silver Creek Lodge. It is quieter than the Snowshoe areas. It isn't as congested. My son loved the tubing hill in the back. We also picked up some items we needed in the gift shop and the ski shop in the lobby.

I will go back again !!!!

Silver Creek at Snowshoe was a great resort but I would reccommend an area in the "village". The village is a great place to be especially for the winter. The snow was 90% man made so there was some icy patches. This area is not very good for beginners because they didn't have good bunny slopes. The resort was ok.. It was a bit outdated but they had an actual fireplace and not just a gas fireplace. It was a three bedroom condo and it was pretty comfortable, however, the village area is much nicer.

My family has visited silver creek for years and when it comes to familes this is the only place to stay.

Yes it is an older unit but the lobby & ski rental were totaly redone this year. And the elevators are set to be done soon. However, the bus service to the main mountain is MUCH improved.

And if you have kids or new skiers the main mountain is no place to be. Yes there is limited dining but just jump on one the bus do then enviroment a favor and be at the village in 5 min.

Chuck

ps

as for the units being owned by individuals please be advised that EVERY unit on Snowshoe Mt. is owned by an individual so you will NEVER know exactlywhat the decoes will be nore the quality of the unit.

i've stayed at this lodge before, and i don't think they've spent a dime on the amenities over the last decade. the carpets are worn, the staff surly; each room is individually owned, and beware there are vast differences in their decor (although all pay the same exhorbinant prices). our room was just above the entrance, so we were kept awake each night by people coming and going. the mattress was virtually useless--we'd have been better off on the floor. after much complaining, mgmt agreed to change out the mattress--the maintenance guy actually had it (queen size) folded under his arm when he arrived. shows you the quality you can expect. the toaster and coffee pot didn't work, and we never got them replaced. the "art" in this room appeared to be left over from stuff that didn't sell at a flea market, and was bolted on the wall with heavy screws. for $400 a night, one should expect more. i will admit the skiing was great, and the mtn beautiful, but next time i will rent a house that i have seen on line before.

While the skiiing is fun, and the village is enjoyable, Silver Creek Lodge is a travesty and a testament to failure for hoteliers everywhere. Each individual condo is independantly owned and contracted through the resort services. The resort charges a tremendous price ($375.00 per night), but does not deliver in any way. We quickly found ourselves immersed in 80's drab furniture, filthy carpet, a TV that didn't work, and a room fit for section eight housing. I've been bashed by skiers on their review site whom tell me to "get out of my room and ski", but at some point, I must sleep, and I am not happy paying nearly $400 per night to sleep in a place like that. Some kid had spilled a whole bag of cheetohs in the hallway when we checked in, and they remained there for our entire stay (five days), and thats the kind of thing that really gets me going. Just sheer laziness among the employees. Service, food, pool, spa, everything was far below par. We finally complained enough, got $1200 back, and departed early at the mercy of an apologetic manager whom had way too much practice in the field of reimbursement. Yes folks, the skiing is grand, but if you're into sleeping and eating at some point, then you will be sorely disappointed. I will say this, the restaurant at Soaring Eagle Lodge, called Ember, was good, and the Soaring Eagle itself looked nice. But trust me, AVOID SILVER CREEK AT ALL COSTS, OR IT WILL COST YOU IN THE LONG RUN! The people who run this place would never make it in Florida.
