“Wonderful Place, Needs Slight Updating”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2013

We had our family reunion this past Thanksgiving weekend and it was lovely. Three of the cottages were rented by family members at a great price that made good sense. The cottages were right on the lake and the sunrises ands sunsets were beautiful. The lodge was warm and inviting and the food was pretty good. The staff was very accommodating for what our needs were. I'd recommend this place in a heartbeat and would love to go back when we can make use of the decks at the cottages!

My only drawback were the beds and bedding...really should update both because people want to sleep well on vacation.

My husband found this place as they offered a great military fare. We took our 5 year old daughter while our other kids were at a sleep away camp.

What a cute little place, I wish we had planned to stay longer. It was very pleasant and comfortable. There was a really nice pool and hot tub area, we enjoyed some night swimming. We chose not to partake but there was a a big fire pit and you could make smores, a fun evening. The next morning we got up and enjoyed the bountiful breakfast buffet, not cheap but worth the price. I always love an omelet station. After breakfast we went to check out the water sports and spent some time using the canoes, kayaks and SUP boards.

The ground were gorgeous and there was plenty more we could have done but we had to head out. I would love to take the entire family back here.

There were also little cottages you could rent on the lake.

This is our second visit to Stonewall Resort. The resort is extremely clean. The staff is very friendly and always available to assist. The meals at the on site restaurants are top notch. It was cold while we were there so we were able to relax by the fireplace and catch up on our reading. Each day we went for a long walk on the trails. We highly recommend a get away here. From Pittsburgh it is only a 2 hour highway drive. Very easy to get there.

Room Tip: We had a room over looking the lake and hills behind. At the time we were there some of trees still...

Just got back from Stonewall with my daughters and one granddaughter and we loved everything about it. The service at check in and out was friendly, efficient and speedy. The four of us shared a double queen room which was spacious enough, the beds were comfy, clean & fresh. Everything we experienced was wonderful, good food, good drinks , we had the breakfast buffet and everything I chose was very good. Most importantly, the coffee was delicious. The highlight, however, was hiking the trails! What wonderful, spectacular views! The colors were just past peak but were, nevertheless, magnificent. We do plan on going again, maybe in the spring. Worth the trip!!

Room Tip: our room had a view of the lake with the wooden bridge crossing it. very nice.

Thank you for the review. We have been building some new trails this fall and winter and will finish them up in early April. Most of the new trails are close to the lake so you get some great water views.

A girls weekend away in a beautiful location. The suite we had was a perfect locale to have a casual place to hang out. Our view was, however, marred by the great number of flies. The food service ranged from ok to downright rude. The spa was accommodating but was not large enough to hang out as a group. Overall a nice weekend in an average location

My son and I thought we would take a golf trip before he started graduate school and we have always wanted to go to Stonewall. We stayed at the Lodge and had a room that looked out toward the lake. It would be fair to say it needed a little upkeep in terms of re-caulking in the bathroom but the room itself was clean and comfortable. The staff and the restaurants were very good. Great food and service with reasonable prices. The restaurant at the Golf course had particularly lovely views. The golf course was in great shape! They had some rain the week before we came and overnite on two of the nights we were there. Consequently, it was cart paths only, which really gets you in shape on a mountain course! The cart service was tremendous (they found 3 clubs that I lost over the couse of play) and not over-priced as it sometimes is at a resort, the greens were in solid shape for the rain they had, they also had just top-dressed the greens. Overall, a challenging course, but lots of peace and quiet, which gave Patrick and I time to talk and re-connect on what will be his last vacation for a few years.

We spent the night of Oct. 26 to attend a wedding. As a wedding venue, this Stonewall Resort is beautiful. The wedding was nice and the food was good as compared to most wedding buffets.

As a hotel guest, the Stonewall Resort fell short. Granted, our stay was short and we did not get to experience many of the resort amenities. My impression was that there was a distinct lack of warmth from the staff. They go through the motions, but aren't really friendly. Pass an employee in the hall and they don't acknowledge you. The maids were in the hallway, but didn't say hello. If this place is trying to compete with resorts like Bedford Springs, they really need to take a lesson in friendliness, something that doesn't cost a penny but reaps rewards.

The facility itself doesn't compare to Bedford Springs. The lodge is sprawling, but the construction isn't first rate. The walls between rooms were so thin that I could hear conversations next door. When our neighor's alarm went off at 7:30AM, it sounded like it was our alarm. Upkeep seems to be a bit of a problem as well. Stains were apparent on the hall carpeting and inside our room.

The room was nicely sized and decorated in craftsman style with a desk, sofa and armoire with flat screen TV. There was also a small refrigerator which held two bottles of water ($3 each) but would come in handy for snacks or drinks. The bed was very saggy and soft to the point that I had trouble turning over or sitting up. The bathroom had marble vanity and tub with subway tile. The shower head, towel rack, and clothes hooks were very cheap. Shampoo & soaps were Gilcrist & Soames.

The lake and grounds look beautiful, but it was cold and windy, so we couldn't do much outdoors. Maybe if we had an opportunity to use the grounds, I would be more likely to return, but I'm not beating a path back there any time soon.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the lake.
