“Roseland is Beautiful”
Reviewed June 21, 2008

Roseland is one of the most beautiful resorts of its kind in eastern United States. It is a mixture of guest houses and camp sites with trailers and tent camping. If you stay in the guest houses, there are two downsides: 1) no keys to lock room doors which forces you to leave cash and valuables in the trunk of your car; and 2) the food is not good. On the other hand, I found the staff friendly and kind, unlike some of the other respondents who have written reviews. Most guests at Roseland did not care about the food, and I did not see drunk staff members as others have written. They came for other reasons. During my visit, I was the only man of color among the guests and one of the few men over 50 years old and, as a result, I did not feel comfortable. But that was not Roseland's fault. Perhaps the location had something to do with it. I stopped to buy gasoline in the Proctor area but was denied the use of a restroom. Go figure.

Deluxe cabin should be renamed :
Secluded Kitchenette with bathroom 75 ft away.
Dirty refrigerator & windows.
Dead spider in dishes.

A simple effort to take a dusting brush to the main bathroom downstairs of main building would also assist in making things nicer.

If the cost was lower, I would have expected what we got. This review is due to the cost was very high for what we got and a few more dislikes.

The only 2 friendly staff members I encountered were Randy and Jack.

Web site has mention of pool but there was none. The original small pool was taken out and they were in the middle of building the new one. It was not done when we were there but we still paid the In-season high rate. We also had to walk thru the mud about a 1/4 mile from main area to the "Secluded Cabin" .

Web site mentioned Clothes optional resort but, due to the workers building the pool being "straight", we could not be nude. And we were reminded of that simple fact many times ! Another reason for why we should not have paid a higher "In-Season" fee.

Good note: the B&B rooms looked real nice.
Many of the guests were very nice.

We stayed in one of the "deluxe" cabins at the resort, but it was anything but deluxe. The refrigerator had grease stains and the interior surfaces of the refrigerator were filthy as were the pots and pans. The bathroom was 75 feet away from the cabin, and you had to bring your own sheets and linens, which wouldn't have been so bad except for the price charged for the cabin ($142 per night!). We also called ahead to ask whether we needed to bring blankets, but the staff member did not know (nor did he look), so he just said it would be a good idea to bring the blankets. No garbage bags were left in the cabin, and the 75 feet away bathroom ran out of toilet paper. We mentioned that the refrigerator didn't seem clean, but nobody seemed to do anything about it or care. The walk to the main buildings was 10 minutes, but the road is dirt and gets very muddy.

The pool was not completed yet even though we were charged high season rates. Even though the resort is clothing optional, we were told that this was not allowed for the first day due to contractors being onsite working on the pool.

The staff was overall friendly, except for the one that checked us in. Randy and Jack were very helpful and pleasant. Randy gave us a tour of the bed and breakfast rooms, which looked nicer and seemed like they would be a better value since they include sheets and linens, breakfast and dinner, and are not as remote as the cabin. There is a beautiful view from the hot tub, and the main bath facilities were nice. We enjoyed hiking on their trails.

I don't have experience with other gay campgrounds in the northeast to compare this to. I would highly recommend that if staying here that you avoid the "deluxe cabins" as they are filthy and a rip off. It seemed that the B&B rooms (or camping) are a better value.

It has been numerous years since the last visit. We have New Owners that have taken over as of August, 2010. We have remodeled the cabin that is talked about here with new appliances. We now provide linens for that cabin and our customer support staff is more then happy to answer any questions without delay. The cabin price is only $135.00 per night, linens provided, new bathroom in the house. Also, we have new gravel laid at least yearly and we keep the roads much better maintained now. The Pool is completed and heated between 80 and 84 degrees. The main village area is now paved all the way to the pool. Our Restaurant has been remodeled and the quality of food has improved immensely. We now have a steam room and sauna, as wellas, an updated gym. Please give us another visit at some point and let us know your thoughts. We appreciate your comments and feedback.
