This is an awesome place to visit-the park is clean, the rangers were friendly. There is a lot to do-boating, golf, sight seeing and majestic mountains. We were there in the fall and the colors were ok-I think we missed peak. We still had a great time-there are full hook up available and also tent areas. I think this place is a to-do for anyone who loves the outdoors. We did not ride the skylift-but it looked interesting. Its like a ski lift-I am not a fan of heights-but it sure was pretty from the landing area. There was also a hotel and restaurant on site.

We only had a little time and chose to ride the tram down the mountain. It was a GREAT experience for our young children. It was safe and a bit scary.... They talked about it for hours. I do wish the restaurant at the bottom was more accesible to the common folk who can't afford a $30 dinner, it would have been so nice to have gotten a bite before riding back up.

I have to say, West Virginia has some of the best state parks around the Mid-Atlantic. They are tidy, cared for and beautiful. Pipestem is no exception and it is designed for families in mind:
1. Lots of activities for families (horseback riding, nature center, hiking, rock throwing in the creek, biking etc.)
2. Adult programs too: dining, golf, and long hikes.
3. Lodging at various price points: lower lodge, upper lodge, cabins, and camping.
4. Kid favorite: the aerial tram down to Mountain Creek Lodge (open May to October). What a view.
5. Adults/kids favorite: hiking down the River Trail to Mountain Creek Lodge (you will need a towel since you have to traverse the creek on foot), then taking the tram back up.

There is nothing better then reading a book under the trees by the creek...we have been here many times and will continue to come back.

Great drive to and from my house....love the golf courses...The Par 3 course is one of the most challenging on east coast. 18 hole course offer challenging holes and great scenery. Lots of walk trails and bike trails.
