This was our first visit to Pipestem and the Park was really nice, but very dissappointed in the Lodge rooms. We got a suite, thinking that would be better. After waiting until 4 pm to check-in, we were in a room as far from the elevator and lobby as you could be placed. It caught the evening sun and was 80 degrees in the room every afternoon until well past dark. Needless to say we were very uncomfortable. The drapes were covered in dust. I used the pool and the ladies dressing area was very bad. There was water all over the floor and the sauna was broken and in need of repairs. I understand it has lots of age on it, but renovations should be done as needed. The golf shop grill only had one employee to do it all and the small cafe was the same way. We were a group of 9 and it took a while to get our food. These were in need of repairs also. The employees were very nice and I am sure these problems were out of their control.

I just took my 85 year old mother on her first trip to West Virginia. I read all the reviews & somewhat warily booked our stay. No worries-she loved it! The front desk staff was very friendly & efficient. Our room was a bit dated, but sparkling clean with nice, comfy beds. And the view!! It was fabulous! Lovely to sit out on our balcony & drink in the beauty of West Virginia. With a long list of activities & the beautiful setting, Pipestem has a lot to offer. However- some of the negative reviews do have merit. The walls are thin. We had to run a fan at night to cover the sounds of our neighbors. We dealt with it, but it's not peak season. I imagine when the lodge is crowded it can get pretty annoying. The indoor pool was just plain cold. The food wasn't just terrible, it was inedible. It was early in the week & the neighboring restaurants weren't open. That was a real problem. We ended up making sandwiches in our room. Preparing decent food is not hard. I don't understand why it seems to be a continuing problem. Overall, our stay was nice. The price was reasonable, the staff was great, & the view was spectacular. I would probably come back, but I would make sure the area restaurants were open & I wouldn't come during peak season.

Room Tip: Choose a balcony room on the fourth floor or higher for the best views. Do not, under any circumstan...

I was on a business trip to Hinton and originally booked by my company to stay at a local motel. Good thing my local contacts warned me not to take a chance at the local motel! And then they suggested Pipestem Resort which is only 9 miles south from Hinton. I never knew about Pipestem and boy was I amazed by its location and its beauty! If you love nature or outdoor recreational activities, you should at least consider this place. As for the lodge itself, the building is dated and shows signs of it. However, the rooms are still clean and crisp. Looks like it was updated recently. I had 2 nights of great sleep here. The lobby was being renovated so at least they are making improvements to the lodge. With that said, I hope the next time I return, the lodge completes its upgrades. I only ate at the restaurant for one night and had their buffet. It was ok. Nothing to brag about. Service was acceptable and the front desk staffs were very nice. So if you are in and around Hinton, WV looking for a place to stay, Pipestem Resort is the place.

Room Tip: Rooms on higher floors will offer great mountain views.

We spent two nights at the Mountain Creek Lodge at PIpestem, and it is the most wonderful, relaxing place to stay. You can sit on your balcony and look up at the mountains surrounding you, and watch the tram come and go, and listen to the river flowing by. It is so serene and peaceful here, I wanted to stay a week. You can hike in the gorge, or you can hike out of the gorge on the River Trail (which involves wading the river). Or ride the tram back to the top for all the activities that Pipestem has to offer.

Room Tip: All rooms face the river, so I assume there's not a bad one. Just choose upstairs or downstairs.

Pipestem, particularly McKeever Lodge, has spectacular gorge views, and the park has nearly every possible recreational activity within an easy short drive or hike. The main negative is very poor food service, poorly prepared and not up to the excellence of all other aspects. Fortunately there are excellent private restaurants within less than a mile from the park. Brandons and The Oak were 5 star quality. Apparently food was previously a highlight of the park, but those days are gone unfortunately. This place has such potential and great employees, young, friendly, and enthusiastic. Come on Pipestem. Serve better cuisine.

Our family once again came to Pipestem for our reunion...some camped...some stayed at the RV spots...some stayed at the lodge. From the youngest at 4 to the oldest at 84...we had a blast. There was something for everyone...and we took advantage of most activities available. Three days simply was not enough. The staff was fantastic, too! Plan on coming back again next year!!

Room Tip: The suites facing the gorge are supurb! Go up at least 4 floors ...better views and quieter AC! Bu...

What a great place. Lots of lodging options, plenty of activities, and relatively inexpensive. It is pretty remote. It has a great Par 3 golf course. Great views and lots of hiking and activities. For families with kids it is a good alternative to Disney. The only downside is the rooms are dated and the AC is not in great condition (cools but doesn't dehumidify).
