We spent two nights at the Mountain Creek Lodge at PIpestem, and it is the most wonderful, relaxing place to stay. You can sit on your balcony and look up at the mountains surrounding you, and watch the tram come and go, and listen to the river flowing by. It is so serene and peaceful here, I wanted to stay a week. You can hike in the gorge, or you can hike out of the gorge on the River Trail (which involves wading the river). Or ride the tram back to the top for all the activities that Pipestem has to offer.

Room Tip: All rooms face the river, so I assume there's not a bad one. Just choose upstairs or downstairs.

Pipestem, particularly McKeever Lodge, has spectacular gorge views, and the park has nearly every possible recreational activity within an easy short drive or hike. The main negative is very poor food service, poorly prepared and not up to the excellence of all other aspects. Fortunately there are excellent private restaurants within less than a mile from the park. Brandons and The Oak were 5 star quality. Apparently food was previously a highlight of the park, but those days are gone unfortunately. This place has such potential and great employees, young, friendly, and enthusiastic. Come on Pipestem. Serve better cuisine.

Our family once again came to Pipestem for our reunion...some camped...some stayed at the RV spots...some stayed at the lodge. From the youngest at 4 to the oldest at 84...we had a blast. There was something for everyone...and we took advantage of most activities available. Three days simply was not enough. The staff was fantastic, too! Plan on coming back again next year!!

Room Tip: The suites facing the gorge are supurb! Go up at least 4 floors ...better views and quieter AC! But, really there aren't any bad places to stay there!!! Just be sure to check in at McKeefer even if you are staying down in the gorge!!!

What a great place. Lots of lodging options, plenty of activities, and relatively inexpensive. It is pretty remote. It has a great Par 3 golf course. Great views and lots of hiking and activities. For families with kids it is a good alternative to Disney. The only downside is the rooms are dated and the AC is not in great condition (cools but doesn't dehumidify).

Returned from a 5 day stay...took our 11 yr old grandson...
beautiful park, with awesome views of the mountains, the lodge is beautiful , with beautiful decor ,did not mind the dated decor, The grounds ,gardens are very well maintained. Our room was nice.. could have used more light..the exception is ,minimal cleaning of the room , it only got vacuumed once in 3 days, called the front desk and clerk said "they will get to it...(they got to it at@3).Rooms r not soundproof..food at the restaurant is mediocre.. They could at least offer free coffee in the lobby-(charge too much for the buffet)Wed. night paid $16.00/pp- drink not inc---chicken,porkchops were tough, luckily the very nice waitress charged our grandson 1/2 price..same thing for the breakfast buffet..(did not return)..went to local places..no frig in room, took our cooler and food..staff could be friendlier..the clerk at check in was rude (older lady grayish hair..)no smile, charged me up front for the stay..asked what if an emergency came up and we had to leave early..replied..you have to give us a 48 hr notice (on an emergency????)most places charge at end of stay...came up to the desk one time overheard "she has a question--its your turn".40% of the staff was nice, but Management needs to send this folks to public relations classes .Staff at the stables ,nature center, pool, tram, golf course were great.over all ,will return..It is a very beautiful, husband and grandson played golf and went horseback riding..we also enjoyed putt putt golf, beautiful outdoor and indoor pool..(the elevator broke down at day of check out...)The price was right(SR discount)overall enjoyed the trip..last but not least...gentleman at front door (-greeter- )and park ranger were nice and friendly...to the manager of the restaurant--please go back to country cooking-

Room Tip: Request rooms at top floors..quieter and awesome views//
