My friend and I had a wonderful time with the day tour! Chuck was very knowledgeable and a great guide with many stories that kept us entertained and informed throughout the entire experience. I decided to visit after visiting their Halloween attraction and can’t wait to go back for an overnight ghost hunt!

Opened the gates when they said they would. the tour they give you is amazing, so much knowledge of the inmates, events that occurred. Then your let loose on your own, it’s amazing going in and out of cells, walking the hallways, going anywhere you want to go. People really get into this stuff we walked by a group of people trying to contact one of the inmates, pretty cool stuff. We had a great time.

The guided tour was informative and entertaining then when we were allowed to investigate on our own, we couldn’t have more fun! I’m going back ASAP

If you want a really fun night out with friends this is it. We had a group of 8 friends and we all had a blast. Scheduling is easy and online and the escape room is fun and challenging.

This is the first abandoned prison my husband and I have ever visited, so we weren't sure what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised with the history of this place. We were very fortunate because our docent was a former employee of the prison. Chuck was able to make us see how it used to be when the prison was open. Our group was small (I would advise if you go on the weekend to arrive when they open to avoid large crowds. Our group had 8 people....as we were leaving, we passed groups with at least 30+ people). In a smaller group, you have time to ask more questions and see more of the place. One of the things that was most interesting was the beautiful murals located in various places within the prison. These were all painted by inmates! We also got to see 'Sparky' the electric chair. I would highly recommend visiting this historical site. If you have time, visit the Indian Mound directly across the street from the prison. It was a very cold day when we visited, so we didn't get a chance to visit, but took a picture of it from the prison parking lot. Also....the prison isn't heated or air-conditioned, so be sure you are dressed appropriately!

We attended the overnight paranormal investigations tour on November 9-10.
Our 90 minute tour was presented by Lori, who has been employed at WV Pen Tours for 17 years, and she knows her stuff!
She added personal insights and experiences within the prison walls that added to the overall creepy feel of the Pen.
Although we did not experience any paranormal experiences as a group of three, others armed with paranormal equipment reported several areas of increased activity within the Pen Walls.
It was raining and muddy outside the evening we were there, and there is a lot of walking and stairs, so leave your favorite stiletto heeled boots at home when you visit ;-)
Overall great experience and highly recommend.

Didnt really know if I see anything but its possible I did. But I really enjoyed the history part of it when it comes to are states history. And as for it being a abandoned prison that doesn't house inmates. Its given me respect for the prisons or Penitentiary that do still house inmates. Thank you to all the people that work at The West Virginia State Penitentiary. Thank you for this experience.

We have seen this location on several shows and were excited to visit and be locked down at the penitentiary. Aside from being scary at night, it is a beautiful building with lots of interesting history. We started the tour with a guide who had been there for may years and was able to share the building's history with the group. After the group tour, we were allowed to explore & investigate on our own. We captured hours of audio and video footage. The overall experience was everything we hoped it would be. The only negative to the experience was the number of overall guests participating in the lock down. With the large number of people there, it was hard to tell if sounds we heard and recorded were human or paranormal.

Definitely worth the money! Not only from the historical point but the activity for the overnight experience is definitely haunting, scary, and thrilling!!! Definitely made my teenage daughter (who is an amateur paranormal investigator) birthday a one of a kind

We had a very good time doing the escape room. If you want to do something different and be part of a team give it a try.

But the question is....did you let Lefty live, or die? Thanks for your comments and come back for a day tour!
