my husband, mother,stepfather and I went to the 2014 Hatfield and McCoy Festival held in Matewan. We decided to get something to eat here and oh what an excelent choice. The ribs were amazing. We have a trip planned to hit the trails coming up and we are already planning to eat supper there again. Overall experience was great

Great BBQ in this establishment run by descendants of the famous McCoy clan. We had the pulled pork BBQ and it was tender and juicy. They have excellent sauces to make taste buds go crazy and I found the whisky sauce to be my favorite. Sweet and yet bold! Keep in mind that they are only open on Friday and Saturday so plan accordingly. Great place to eat in this historic coal town.

During the winter Mingos is open on Friday, Sat. and Sunday. We had Friday night dinner here and we got food "to go" the next day. Don and Kathy, the owners, are "real McCoys" (yep, Don is a descendant of one of the feudin' McCoys! They have the place decorated nicely and even have a fireplace in the dining area that's from a McCoy house (sorry I don't recall all of the details but they'll be able to tell you). We hired Don to take us on a tour of Hatfield and McCoy country and he did a super job. We wish we had more time. We bought 4 more meals "to go" from Mingo's when we left. Mmmmm it sure was good! Thanks to Kathy and Don for a super experience!!

My wife and I were doing geocaching of the Hatfield and McCoy sites. We stopped in Matewan to find a place to eat. Coming from a small town ourself, we understand that the best is not always the brightest lit or advertised. We were right with this pick. We were greeted with cheer. My wife ordered the pulled pork and I a full rack of ribs.(thinking I would take what I did not eat with me back to the hotel). WOW the rack came. Only way to discribe is robust in volume. They tasted so good, guess how many went back to the hotel (0). Make this a stop, it is worth it if you are hungry. (Price not bad either).

We spent a great day on Buffalo Mountain Trail and ride into Matewan for lunch. I had the Boston Butt smoked pork sandwich. This is awesome. Smoky and tender and delicious. Good wings and several types of BBQ sauces to try, but the smoked pork is something to write home about, and to plan a trip into town for.
