“A lovely retreat”
Reviewed December 1, 2012

We stayed at Mountain Quest for one night. The setting is lovely, the rooms are unique, and the Inn was built with guests' comfort in mind. They have videos, games, a massive library, a piano, walking trails, and a working farm to explore. Breakfast was quite good, and they were very accommodating throughout our stay. We found ourselves wishing we could stay longer. Thinking back, the only thing that would make us pause before returning to Mountain Quest (and the reason for four stars instead of five) is some of the spiritual discussions initiated by the hostess during breakfast.

As Activities Director for the Roanoke Ski Club I organized a weekend visit to the Inn at Mountain Quest to enjoy the lovely fall season and the many activities in the area. The Inn, the rooms, meals, Inn Keepers, staff, etc., etc., were all absolutely THE BEST! What a wonderful weekend we all had with a trip already in the making for next October 2013 and possibly some visits through the winter combined with skiing at Snowshoe! Everything I had read and heard prior to our visit was nothing but positive however, nothing prepared us for the actual visit! I just cannot say enough for this "jewel" in the mountains of West Virginia. Alex, David, son/Andrew were so gracious and accommodating in every way.

Room Tip: We had the King/Fantasy room and it was very comfortable, nice bath, comfortable sofa/chairs, large...

This accomodation is beyond unique. Each of the 12 rooms are decorated around a theme and all items--towels, bed linens, wall-hangings, etc--contribute to the room's theme. The owners have made accessible their private collection of books, games, kaliedoscopes, miniature carousels in a 3-story library area. Also included is a bar, pool table, large-screen TV, hot-tub, exercise area, and free laundry facilities. The chef wasn't on site when we were there, each guest ordered their food which was prepared to your liking. This B&B was definitely unlike any other we have ever experienced. We would stay again if we were in the area. Our only criticism would be that the building that houses the guests' rooms need to be pressure washed and given a fresh coat of paint.

We loved The Inn at Mountain Quest. My husband planned our trip to WV and I had no idea where we were to be staying. The Inn at Mountain Quest was a wonderful surprise. We loved the farm atmosphere and the owners, Alex and David, were such great hosts. They went out of their way to make our stay a great experience and we really enjoyed talking with them. This was our first stay at a bed and breakfast type place and the experience was wonderful. We enjoyed meeting the other people staying at the Inn, learning where they were from and what they were doing during their stay. We really liked the privacy of a room with its own outside entrance and private bath. There are 12 separate rooms and each one is decorated with a different theme. The main house features a huge library with a grand piano that is open to anyone who chooses to play and a community rec room with a large selection of DVD's. There are also computers available to guests, a small workout area and free laundry facilities. The Inn had everything we were looking for - a lovely setting, peace and quiet and all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay. If we ever go back to WV we would definitely stay at the Inn again and try out one of the other unique rooms. Thanks to Alex and David and the staff for a great stay!

Room Tip: All of the rooms are unique. We stayed over Labor Day and booked kind of late so we only had a choi...

We just got back from a great visit to The Inn at Mountain Quest. The owners are delightful folks who treat you with warm hospitality. My husband, myself and my children all enjoyed our visit. It was a great time to unwind and let the worries leave you.

My husband and I were looking for a nice overnight trip for our anniversary. Doing some research I found the steam train in Durbin, West Virginia so we needed to find a place to stay. This had to be the best choice. We were unprepared for the quite zone from the Astronomy Tower, (which we also visited) and being in our early 20's and tied to out precious technology, we still had a great time.

We got to the Inn around 8pm which seemed late to be getting in and we wondered around the place until we came across some people and they graciously helped us. Our room was very nice but was the handicap accessible room, which usually is no big deal but it kind of smelt like a hospital. So we explored a bit that evening, there was a hot tub, game room, a little bit of workout equipment, thousands of DVD's that the people are completely trusting for you to just take back to your room and watch, a room with a glass ceiling to observe the night sky, and my favorite part, the library. This room was to die for and the people running the Inn are clearly very intellect people. My husband and I had a great time in their checking out, what appears to be, homemade kaleidoscopes all around the top floor of the room.

The next morning we were surprised to see they also offered hiking trails and animals. Breakfast was a million times better than any place we have ever stayed and while we were eating the older couple who owns the place came around and asked each one of us if we slept okay and asked us about our plans, gave us great advice and directions, then invited us to go feed the animals with them. We went with them and just one other couple and meet all their animals. The way they love their animals also made me fall in love with this place. I own a horse and feel that I learned more about horses in an hour than I have in the last 7 years of owing one. Giving an animal that isn't perfect a chance to live and be happy is just how I am and they share the same value. Also I learned that this place is animal friendly as I saw another couple with their dog.

Overall we plan to stay again and try out a different room. Getting there we were a bit skeptic as the place looked like it could use some work, paint, and such but when we left we were in love. I saw a sign on our way out that said, Enter as Strangers, Leave as Friends. And that is just want it felt like. :)

Room Tip: We stayed in the Garden Room, which was very nice, but I wouldn't say in this room unless you ne...

My husband and I just got back from a long weekend stay at the Mountain Quest Inn in Frost, WV. It was the best getaway we have ever had at an Inn. It is a step up from a Bed and Breakfast with having private baths in each room and so much more! The rooms are luxurious and clean with staff that made you feel like one of the family. I love getting exercise and each morning I took a four mile walk around the trails behind the inn. The quiet and morning mist that graced the mountain filled me up with such peace. There is so much wildlife to see. Andrew, the inn's chef made decadent food as well as shared his favorite hiking spots and places that are off the beaten path. He not only in the chef, but the manager of the Inn. He is the son of Alex, who is one of the owner along with her husband David. They made you feel right at home and were fascinating to talk with. Each morning after breakfast they took guest on a tour of their barns where they have a variety of animals. Their love for what they do shines through everything about the place. We had the pleasure of having two cats greet us as we walked up onto the porch where the office entrance is located.
Another marvel is their spectacular three story library with leather sofas to relax in as you browse the huge collection of books. Then there is the game room which is home to 3000 + videos for guests to selection from at no extra cost. If you want to watch TV, the game room's large flat screen is connect to satellite, but the rooms are not. There is also a pool table and many games to play. It is family friendly and also welcomes pets. Dinner is not served every night, but we had a wonderful meal both Friday and Saturday evening prepared by Andrew. If there are enough guest, he does a dinner both those nights. If you need a snack, they have a snack area on the honor system. Everything is one dollar. If you go, you may want to bring some food in to take care of dinner if you visit in the middle of the week. The closest places to eat are about 25 minutes away and it is mostly fast food. We did eat at the Snak Shack in Marlinton on our way to the inn on a Thursday and they do make great burgers and waffle fries. I am not a fast food person, but it was much better than the typical fast food joint.
On Thursday evening we slipped into plush robes that they provide in every room and walked over to the hot tub for a quiet soak. They also have a sauna and a couple of pieces of exercise equipment.
What I loved most about this place is that you can have your privacy, but you can also interact with the staff and guest for social time. It is the best of both worlds.
We are already planning to go again. When we said our goodbyes, it was like saying goodbye to family.

Room Tip: If you want a bigger bed than a full, make sure you look at what rooms have what size beds. Each ro...
