“beautiful ride”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2013

The trail and river were great. Cass was interesting as was all of the trail. My main problem with the trail is the scattering of loose gravel on the trail, especially in dangerous areas near the river. It was also difficult because for most of the trail you follow two slim tracks about a foot wide. Add the loose gravel and horse hoof tracks left on the trail and it was hard to enjoy the spectacular view because you have to keep watching the trail. Great tunnels and bridges.

“Great ride and beautiful scenery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

Very scenic and quiet ride along the Greenbrier River. Remote and well maintained trail which should be allowed time to truly enjoyed. Local outfitters need to provide service for shorter section rides. Twenty five miles is a pretty good heft for a day for a lot of folks.

“Beautiful Trail”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

A group of 6 adults ages 58 thru 94 rode the trail two days. On the recommendation of reviews and trail info we rode the section from Cass to Marlinton, 25 miles, the first day. We used the Appalachia Sports shuttle service and highly recommend them if you only want to ride one way. His price is more affordable per person if you have more people shuttling together. Chuck was a great guide and very knowledgeable about the area and willing to entertain you with local stories and info on the 1/2 hour ride. The trail is well groomed, we found it to have slightly more tire resistance than we are accustomed to in the Pittsburgh, PA area with the gravel coating, but since we are out to exercise we were fine. The 2nd day we again used the shuttle service and bike rode from Renick to Burnsides, about 17 miles-very slightly uphill. OUR vote was that this was the more scenic section displaying curves in the river and views ahead. The entire trail reminded us a bit of the Ohio Pyle Trail in Pennsylvania.
Just FYI: Appalachia Sports also rent bikes and Kayaks and are not listed on Trip Advisor to review, but I wanted to mention that they really are helpful in making your timeline and biking plans work.

“Fantastic Biking Trail”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2013

Male, late 60's, rode 73 of the 77 miles in 2 days. Beautiful in every mile, almost all of it canopied with trees, often great river views, trail smooth, very gently sloped and very well maintained (I encountered exactly 1 notable rock in the entire trip). Fully sufficient bathrooms and rest stops, and very good signage and mile markers. Able to average 11 mph without difficulty.

Marlinton is really the only trailside town - be sure to carry food/drink/repair items for other miles. Note the general absence of cell-phone service from Cass to below Marlinton. Marlinton likely can meet all basic food, shelter, and bike repair needs.

Good map (Read ALL of it!)

If you plan to be picked up by car, make certain to study exactly where and on which roads to meet; intercept points are not always obvious for drivers.

Surprised at absence of bathrooms at southern terminus.
