My husband and I visited during December. If your looking for a little quiet time where you don't have to go anywhere then it's a great place. Beautiful rooms to hang out in to read a book, shoot pool, play games, sit in front of a fire. This place has so many unique rooms to hang out in, you just want to spend time in each. Whether it's a country room, log cabin room, executive room, sunroom with plants. It has it all. I took in a wonderful Massage from Tammy, sit in the steam room/hot tub. Read an entire book. Went downstairs for dinner then to the bar for an awesome chocolate martini/husband had great beer. Beakfast was delicious. It was such a relaxing weekend. Even went to Lost River State Park to hike to an amazing overlook. Keep in mind this is a gay friendly place. All rooms and resort were very clean and beautifully decorated.

We visited during the Winter months and were very impressed with the overall feel and friendliness of the Guest House. We came with a group of 10 people in 5 rooms and had access to a media room that had a TV, kitchenette and fireplace. It is the perfect place to catch up with friends. Other highlights included the common areas of the house (pool table, poker table and games) and the breakfast. I would highly recommend for groups and others who love a quiet, retreat-like environment.

Room Tip: All the guest house rooms are comparable - would suggest asking for rooms away from the media and ex...

We had heard from friends about this 'gay friendly" lodge in the moutains of this remote, but yet only 2 hours from Northern Virginia. Actually we'd list it as "straight friendly" too. The welcome, the arrival, the laid back but totally relaxing environment was exceptional. We felt like we were at our personal home in the wilderness with all the comforts! Great breakfast at 9:00 a.m. On the weekends, a wonderful menu and bar. Also down the hill is a general store with lighter excellent foods; and down the road is a very good local restaurant. You will not be disappointed. There was a wedding inquiry group while we were there. It will be an exceptional one of a kind wedding. The owners are on premise and will handle everything.

Room Tip: The guesthouse has a large king size room; but the cottages are excellent choices too. The v iew of...

This is a great place to go for a relaxing weekend away. We stayed in the Guesthouse Suite, which was perfect for us on our anniversary weekend. We loved the fireplace in the room and the private deck with a nice view. When we travel on a weekend of hiking and relaxation, we want some space to read, relax, and chill. The suite was perfect for that, although the common areas were really spacious with private areas for the feel of having your own space.

Gary and Jesse were wonderful hosts and were genuinely happy to have us at the Inn. Breakfast was delicious and a nice experience. It is served at 9, so be down there then for a yummy hot breakfast! There was a nice mix of gay and straight couples staying for the weekend, so we could relax and be ourselves.

The common areas, the restaurant, bar, and our suite were all super clean and really nice. We will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Guesthouse Suite was awesome.

My husband and I just stayed at the Guesthouse to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Gary and Jesse greeted us immediately and Gary took us on a tour of the grounds. The main house is amazing with a cozy lodge feel- rooms with leather couches and chairs beside fireplaces, plenty of games, a pool table, and reading materials inviting you to sit and relax. We also spent some time in the bar on the first floor before and after dinner at the restaurant, chatting with the bartender and sitting beside the cozy fire. The views are indeed amazing and the stars at night are breathtaking, especially if you are used to looking up at a city sky.

We were the first ones for breakfast and were not disappointed with the country breakfast fare (the biscuits are particularly delicious!) We also took advantage of the fitness room although on the second day we enjoyed a hike in Lost River State Park. They also had a media room with a kitchenette but we liked spending time in the main house better.

Overall we had a very relaxing stay. It's important to note that you will not get cell service so printing out directions prior to coming is a plus- especially if you plan to arrive at night. They have a phone for you to use in the main house but to be honest I was happy that my cell phone didn't work :) The Wifi works fine if you want to stay connected. Also I had no problem with the lack of TV in the room- I felt like we were really there to disconnect from everything and didn't miss it at all. The lack of a lock on the room door was a minor inconvenience but something to note; I think it would be great to have safes available in the room if they want to stick with the no-key policy.

During the day we enjoyed wineries, hiking, and shopping (The Lost River Artist Cooperative is very cool and I did some early Christmas shopping there). We had a great time and will definitely be back!

Room Tip: We stayed in guest house room one; very comfortable bed and clean bathroom with a stall shower.

Just a short drive (by WDC standards) is the sweetest B&B I have stayed in the DMV area. Just perfect for a three-day get-away. I highly encourage everyone to check it out. My only concerns are the lack of keys for the room and a TV in the room.

Only 2 hours from DC but you will feel like you are truly "away" from the city... very attractive place with gracious and accommodating hosts, beautiful views and terrific food at the Guesthouse restaurant. Lots to explore in the region. Overall very pleased with the trip.

The 5th star is missing only because we had a bit of tricky time finding our bearings in the complex on arrival around 9pm on a Friday - we lamented that the room didn't have a minifridge and we were freezing the first night because we didn't know how to adjust the temperature in the room. We also missed breakfast the next morning because we didn't know it was a "come when called or miss out" situation at 9am (breakfast is served all together family style). All questions were graciously answered and solved the next day (the guesthouses have communal kitchenette/lounge spaces - big fridge!), but, since there is no cell phone service and no hard line phones in room we would have greatly appreciated a little instruction or guide book in our rooms to clue us in to the particulars.
