“Wonderful B&B”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2011

The Inn at Lost River is a truly wonderful place--gracious proprietors, lovely grounds, wonderful food, and comfortable accommodations--and I'd highly recommend a stay. I was able to more fully relax in one weekend at the Inn than in a week at some other establishments. If you need rest and relaxation, this will hopefully be a good match for you, too!

We heard of the Inn at Lost River b/c of a recent Living Social deal. It was perfect timing b/c we were looking for a way to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary. I am VERY happy that we decided to try out this WV B&B!

My husband and i have stayed in a couple of other B&B's and we both agree, that what makes or breaks the experience is the Innkeepers themselves. Toni and Ted made us feel so welcome and did a wonderful job of making a beautiful B&B spectacular b/c of the overall experience.

The Inn is designed to make you relax and take things slowly. Something that is hard for those of us connected to our phones and computers 24 hours a day. But when you can stop and actually do this, you wonder why you don't do it more often! We spent the first night playing a board game in our cottage while listening to the creek next to us. Perfect way to unwind after a stressful work day! (There is wifi and a large flatscreen in the Inn if you can't take it)

We stayed in the SmokeHouse which is one of the outside cottages. It is decorated wonderfully and has a very relaxing feel. It is on the smaller size (compared to the other rooms) but the open arched celing gives it a more open feel. And the rain on the roof the second night was great! I loved that we had our own private entrance and a porch. When we return, I want to try out the Springhouse which is larger with a sitting area and a screened it porch!

Both mornings we had a delicous breakfast prepared by Toni and Ted. Each time i found my self saying..."what a wonderful display....i can't wait to try and make this myself...man, this is good!" I am a picky eater and what i loved about this B&B is that you could choose your main course. We've stayed at another B&B that had a beautiful breakfast but it happened to be foods i did not like and therefor could not enjoy. Here there were at least 3-4 choices every morning! And they are so welcoming that i'm sure they would find a way to make whatever you asked for.

One of my favorite parts of this Inn were all of the creatures. For those of you who don't love animals...no worries, you don't have to cross paths with them unless you want to. But if you do love animals...you can hang out with Maddie, their yellow lab....make friends with calico kitty....say hello to the neighboring burrows....and meet the coolest sheep ever! (they think they are dogs i believe)

Another thing i loved was the General Store! It has something for everyone and is great just to walk around in. Many great ideas :) It seems to be a gathering place for locals, people who own cabins and vacation here on the weekends, and new guests all together. The menu has soups, paninis, sandwichs, bbq, icecream, salads, and more. Even if you don't take our recommendation and stay at the Inn, you really need to stop by the general store!

We went horseback riding in the Lost River State Park. Toni actually set it all up for us and we just showed up on Saturday. It was a wonderful experience. The horses are very well taken care of and very well behaved. You don't have to worry if they are being loved! We did the 2 hour ride up the mountain. The view at the top is spectacular! Then we grabbed our picnic lunch (that they had prepared for us at the General Store) and ate it next to the rope bridge. (Bring Bug Spray!!)

On Saturday night we decided to eat at a different place in Lost River, simply to see another place and explore the area. (Toni and Ted do serve dinner at this Inn and i wish we would have stayed there b/c with the breakfast and attention to detail, i don't see how it would have been anything less than excellent.) To make a long story short...it was not the best overall experience and it involved a bottle of wine that we had purchased and did not enjoy. I told Toni and Ted about our experience and they said to pick out a bottle of wine from the General Store and it would be their gift to us (this was on top of the $50 certificate from the living social deal which was already a great deal!). I replied that they had nothing to do with our experience being not so great and they didn't need to do that. They said that they wanted our entire experience to be a great one.....Ted had a bottle wrapped and waiting at the general store. (AND it was Sauv Blanc which i had told them was my favorite) How often does something like this happen? How often do people go out of their way to make up for someone else's mistake? Not that often! And i think it says a lot about the type of people they are.

Sorry for the long review but i wanted to get across the the wonderful experience we had hopefully help other people to have their own :) The Inn is beautiful and serene....the General store is delightful....and Toni and Ted couldn't be more welcoming! Not to mention....this is a great deal folks! That breakfast alone would cost a pretty penny! :)

This will be our second trip to this inn located in the mountains of eastern West Virginia. We look forward to the hospitality offered by Ted & Toni. The furnishings are among the best of any b&b's we have ever visited and the food selections are truly first class. We only wish that we had found this little slice of heaven earlier in our life, but we intend to make an annual trek there each May.

As a surprise birthday getaway, my husband booked us for a weekend at the inn. We received a warm welcome by Toni and "Matty" the resident mascot. The inn was immaculate, warm, and inviting. When one of the guests discovered she would be solo, she asked to stay in the main house, and Toni immediately offered us the "Spring House" as my husband had originally wanted, but was already booked. It was directly behind the main house, roomy, with the most romantic decor. I loved it!! We slept well in the cozy bed, with a down cover. (There was heat in the room, but we enjoy a cool room to sleep in.) Breakfast was delicious, and I especially appreciate the extra touches Toni did for my birthday, including the beautiful flowers in the charming pottery. Everything was perfect! Also, a special thanks to Betty for sharing her wonderful bean recipe!!!

I have stayed at a variety of bed and breakfast inns both domestically and internationally. The Inn at Lost River certainly ranks in the top ten if not the top five. The location was beautiful, nestled in the Shenandoah Mountains. The house was nicely maintained keeping in form with its original style of the 1870's, a nice period piece. The rooms were quite spacious with tasteful decoration. The food, both dinner and breakfast, was excellent. The hosts were gracious, hospitable, and genuine making you feel welcome the moment you arrived. What shocked me was the cost. The Inn at Lost River is VERY reasonable, especially given the accommodation, all the extras, and great food. Highly recommend this bed and breakfast.

What a great place to stay. A very enjoyable and relaxing weekend made possible by the wonderful innkeepers. The service was excellent and our stay just proved to be overall a very charming experience. The food and beverages at the Inn were wonderfully prepared and were just excellent. What a great modern general store on the property of the Inn. Great lunches, gourmet snack foods & ice cream flavors, smoothies, and wonderful gifts for all ages.
