“Truly a Top Ten”
Reviewed November 22, 2012

My husband and I have been fortunate to travel a great deal over the past five years, and we agree that Ritter Park is one of the most beautiful city parks we've encountered. It was recently voted one of the Top Ten Public Places in America. The park is beautifully maintained. There is a wide walking path circling the entire property. There is a lovely playground for children as well as a nearby picnic shelter. The public restrooms are conveniently located and always well-lit and clean. The park includes plenty of green space with lots of benches and picnic tables dispersed throughout. There is a beautiful tennis center overlooking the park as well as a recently completed dog park. Best of all, this park is a popular gathering place for folks of all ages--families, students from nearby Marshall University, as well as seniors. Add in a quiet creek complete with ducks, and you have the perfect place to kick back, relax, and enjoy the beauty of nature in the middle of the city.

“Perfect Park”
Reviewed November 18, 2012

Every town needs a Ritter Park. This one has the best playground anywhere, jogging trail and pick-up soccer. Wonderful.

“Beautiful park, odd playground”
Reviewed November 13, 2012

This is a gorgeous city park for strolling, playing ball, etc. However the playground is one of the oddest I've been to, verging on unsafe. It has several perilous metal slides descending into a sand pit. Tunnels where it's tough to keep an eye on the kiddos. And a zip line that was awesome for kids and terrifying for parents. The metal bongos were very neat. Go, but be warned that you'll have to stay very close to younger children!
