Owner description: Huntington Museum of Art (HMA) opened on November 9, 1952. Incorporated in 1947, its creation was made possible by the generosity of the community and a group of citizens led by Herbert Fitzpatrick, who donated his art collection of 435 objects and 52 acres of land for the Museum's location. Today, as the only nationally accredited visual art museum of its size in the Tri-State region, HMA encompasses a permanent art collection of over 15,000 objects, ten exhibition galleries, an interactive education gallery, art reference library of over 26,000 volumes, 287-seat auditorium, tropical and subtropical plant conservatory, two outdoor sculpture courts, five studio workshops, two miles of hiking trails, and quarter-mile paved accessible Sensory Trail.

Amazing museum! Beautiful glass collection (even a Chichuly sculpture in the conservatory), firearms, silver, middle eastern collection, permanent collection of works on walls, as well as frequent new exhibits.
Wonderful summer day camp program for children and nature trails. If you are travelling it's a great "unwind stop" for all ages.

I take my children to the art museum on a regular basis. They love the conservatory with plants and fish, and the children's room always has creative materials.
Each Saturday kids can attend a free workshop from 1-3 PM in the studio behind the museum. An hour of art instruction is followed by an hour of dance.
Every Tuesday is free admission for all. There is a lovely gift shop with unique items. No food or drinks available. Check the website for traveling exhibits and special events: http://www.hmoa.org/

Great resident and traveling art exhibits, and they have a conservatory you can walk through to enjoy some plants indoors in foul weather, and take advantage of the lovely hillside trails for some time outside on a short hike in nice weather. Conveniently located off I-64 and so very nice to have art like this in WV.
