“Bed bugs”
Reviewed February 20, 2013 via mobile

I stayed during a recent business trip and all I can say is don't! This hotel seriously needs cleaning and updating. it was chosen because of the location, which was convenient, but its not worth it. i came home covered in bed bug bites. I travel frequently for work, and in 6 years this is a first. I contacted the hotel and so far have not had a response. Also, I dont recommend the restaurant. our whole group was disappointed; everything was overcooked.

This hotel is inspected every 10 to 14 days for any sign of bedbug activity. Bedbugs leave a very discernible sign of their presence. Our staff experts physically pull apart each bed, check headboards, carpets, chairs, and any other likely place that bedbugs hide. In addition, unlike many other hotels and chains, we change bedding on stayovers each day as well as when the room vacates. This is an additional cost to the hotel but we consider it a preventive measure to safeguard our guest. If a guest does report suspected activity, we immediately take the room off market and conduct a teardown inspection. If no activity is found, the room remains off market for an indeterminate amount of time to make sure we have missed nothing. After we are sure that the room has had no problem, we will return it to rentable status. We have had 1 confirmed room in 2 years. We stripped the room and destroyed its furnishings and decor. The room remains off market and may be seen at any time if any guest desires to see the length to which we go to protect this hotel and its guests. This room was also professionally treated by an exterminator. The guest referring to her stay here did not mention any problems to us until more than 10 days after check-out. We went into inspection mode immerdiately and found no activity in her room. Also, the room had already undergone a routine inspection during the time between her check-out and her report of the suspected problem. No activity was noticed then either. If we are remiss at anything, it would be that we did not contact her immediately. In all honesty, her report to us was so after the fact, we weren't sure she wanted us to contact her. If any guest or potential guest would like to see the room in question, we will be happy to show it. We consider this hotel to be very proactive to this industry wide problem.

This hotel is in the heart of Huntington, across the street from Pullman Square with at least a dozen restaurants, a movie theater, book store and boutiques. The hotel itself is older but in decent shape. The room was clean, the bed was a Sleep Number mattress with a duvet. Two complaints- no firm pillows and the wireless kept kicking me off. The wired Internet worked great and was fast. This hotel also offers shuttle service to the airport.

The Pullman Plaza, like Huntington in general, has seen better days. It is adequate for what it is, which isn't much. The rooms are generally large and clean though most of the furnishings show signs of wear. Ice machines and elevators are frequently out of order. Booking online generally nets a dirt cheap rate, from lows of $84/night to highs of about $115/night and guests typically received coupons for one free* drink per night in the hotel bar and a free* breakfast in the hotel restaurant each morning. Parking is also by free* valet and they will provide free* shuttle service to/from the Huntington airport. Tips are generally expected for all the free* services so it pays to have a wad of dollar bills handy when you stay there.

The hotel is ideally located, right in the center of Huntington, across the street from The Pullman Plaza shopping center which features a nice group of restaurants, shopping and a movie theater. More dining and shopping options are all located close by on neighboring blocks.

The worst thing about staying there is the VERY NOISY in-room air conditioning/heating units which sound like a refrigerated semi-trailer is sitting in the room with you. Hot or cold, these units cycle on and off throughout the night making a restfull nights sleep difficult. Earplugs are a must!

Rooms on the front of the building have views of the scenic but dirty Ohio River but at night they have a massive set of blinding spot lights illuminating the building which are quite blinding and which the curtains can only partially block out. Rooms on the back of the building face less attractive views of urban Huntington and the trash trucks roll through the back alley at about 5 a.m. with back up warnings blaring and dumptsters crashing.

The staff is friendly and accomodating as long as your expectations are tempered to match Huntington's local sensibilities.

Room Tip: Higher rooms are quieter, back side is darker for sleeping but the trash trucks will still wake you...

My husband & I spent New Years Eve at the Pullman Plaza after he spent the night performing at a local NYE party. The hotel was nice and clean. Our room was a bit on the small side and the noise from outside was a bit irritating at times, but it was New Years Eve so there were folks on the street and in the hallways. The only downfall is the lack of food options after a long evening out. Room service was down and the local pizza joints had an extreme wait... again, it was NYE. It's not a 5-star hotel but I would suggest it for a quick night stay.

The previous reviews are on target. The staff went out of their way to be friendly and to make us feel at home. The hotel itself has seen much better days. While everything appeared clean, we just couldn't shake the feeling that the place was shabby and unkempt. One elevator was out of service the whole stay. The hotel could do with a re-do and then we would make it a regular stop on our way to Indiana. Otherwise we will just keep going.

Its nice to stay in a privately owned hotel for a change. It feels very homey and friendly (though quite large) and is a nice fit for the kind West Virginia town. It is definitely aging a bit and you can feel it was much nicer 3 decades ago. However, the price is right and it has a nice restaurant and bar and passable pool and gym for under $100 for a King size bed and a nice southern breakfast buffet as well...
