My wife and I went on a 2 week road trip for our honeymoon staying at 4 and 5 star hotels and high quality bed and breakfasts across the SE USA.
We were driving from Michigan to Charleston SC and needed a place to stay 1/2 way in between the two. West Virginia was a perfect place to rest and we found Prestwould Bed and Breakfast online and it looked like a great place so we booked a room.
When we were leaving for our trip we were told that we would be the last guests to ever stay at Prestwould because they had decided to take a break from the business. This made the stay more memorable knowing that we could be the last people to ever stay there.
The best thing about Prestwould is the history. The owner took us on a tour and explained how she owned thousands of acres of land that was originally a land grant from George Washington himself to one of her ancestors. The home was filled with paintings, and antiques that took you back to another time and setting.
The home is a beautiful stone house that is similiar to what the traditional family estate was in England. And it is surrounded by thousands of acres of forests. There are beautiful gardens around the home and it was nice being able to walk around and enjoy them.
The rooms were great and the breakfast had a lot of freshly sliced fruit displayed in a nice presentation.
The location is kind of the middle of nowhere but I think that adds to the charm of the place. It was the perfect place for us though who needed a romantic place to stay on I-77.
I really hope someday Prestwould opens again so other people can enjoy it.
