“Not a bad mountain, easy to get to”
Reviewed February 28, 2014

Winterplace didn't disappoint us. It was a little pricey, and the rental equipment was sub-par, but the mountain itself was much larger than I thought. And, it was super easy to get to.

“Fun Trip for All”
Reviewed February 24, 2014

Having 4 February birthdays in the family, we decided to celebrate this year with a trip to Winterplace Ski Resort for the weekend. My husband & I brought our children a day ahead and enrolled them in the Ski School so that they could renew their snow-boarding & skiing skills for the next day when the rest of the family came up. There was a 12" natural base on top of the man-made which made excellent conditions with more snow falling and all the slopes were open. The only downfall I have found with Winterplace is that there is not an observation deck at the Lodge for those that don't ski (like my Mother-in-Law). Everyone had a great time and is looking forward to coming back again!

“WALMART of Skiing”
Reviewed February 20, 2014

The snow was great last weekend, and we all had a lot of fun. The "Lodge" is dirty, out dated and smells of fried food. The food was Junk and overpriced. The lines for the lifts moved quickly when an attendant was there to direct people and fill up all the available seats. The runs were well maintained, although short. If you are used to a west coast Skiing experience, or have ever gone to europe for a winter holiday you will find the resort skiing area very small. You can do every run in a few hours. The skiing area is very accessible. Just a few minutes of I77. I would recommend it for a beginner, or for a quick getaway. Rent your equipment out side the resort area to save some $$ and time.

“Good for southeast skiing”
Reviewed February 20, 2014 via mobile

We have been to Winterplace for the last three years and will be back again next year. I consider myself an intermediate skier. I've skied in Park City and several North Carolina and Virginia resorts and this is in the middle. I definitely prefer Winterplace over the Boone, NC resorts and Wintergreen in Virginia, although it doesn't hold a candle to western skiing. The snowboarders are out of control and lots of church groups of teenagers on the weekends means overconfident skiers doing things that are dangerous to themselves and others. All that said, we still have a great trip every year and just accept the occasional collision or wipeout as part of the experience! No injuries yet. Will be back!
