“Pleasant Stay”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2007

The motel was in a safe area with access to a gas station and Dairy Queen right there. We stayed in room 222 and found it to be clean and accomodating with the desk folks being courteous and helpful. You need to stay on the inside rooms opposite of the highway for a quieter nights stay.Parking was good and well lit for easy access to vehicle.Be sure and eat at the Sedona Grill for an excellant dinner. It is a good idea make reservations ahead of time and you can get driving directions from the front desk at the motel. The New River Gorge Bridge is just down the road from the motel and in the other direction is a small shopping center with a WalMart and a few eateries.Overall, for this time of year with the leaves changing nicely,it was a very good experience.

Very near New River Gorge. this is no doubt what it is overrun with rafters. rooms are dingy, but if you have been on the river all day, perhaps it doesn't matter. If you are not a rafter...don't stay. Noisy, rundown...you get the picture. Go to nearby Beckly for a choice of hotels!

The best thing I can say about this hotel is that it really close to the Rivermen whitewater rafting center. Other than that this is a very non-quality Quality Inn.

The room we had was very noisy - we could hear everything from the rooms around us and from outside...no reason to believe the others would be any better. The air-con barely worked and made more noise than startinfg a semi truck in the room! Ditto the bathroom fan.

The advertized free internet is by ethernet cable only - no wifi - and you have to go back to reception to collect a cord since no-one tells you this at check-in. we were greeted as though we were delivering a deadly disease by a receptionist who seemed annoyed that we were disturbing her - especially when we asked about discounts (AAA and AARP are available so ask)

The breakfast is meagre - a buffet coprising a few bagels, some very hard to serve cereals in dispensers and something labelled as coffee.

For $80 a night its not good enough. It wasn't even a Super8 experience for which we usually pay around $60 and get clean quiet rooms with full wi-fi, working aircon and much the same breakfast.

Dunno what the other hotels in this area are like but suggest you try them and use this place as a last resort. By the way the Rivermen more than make up for it! They are fantastic. We went on the full day Middle and Lower Gauley trip and it was an awesome experience.

Our two night stay was a bit mixed, but the helpfulness and understanding of the staff was fantastic, well beyond what could be expected. While staying there, I experienced mechanical difficulties with my vehicle, which various members of the staff helped me with by loaning tools and advice to help fix the problem, and the manager even obliged by taking me to get a needed item in attempting to get the vehicle back on the road. As it turned out, our stay was unexpectedly lengthened somewhat as a result of the problem, and we could have been charged with another day's room rental, but were not. Other pluses include the pool, a restaurant which serves an excellent dinner (and Sam Adams on tap), a respectable continental breakfast, and a convenient location. The 2 double bed room accomodated us (2 adults, 2 children) well, the beds were nice and firm, and a/c cooled the 2nd (upper floor ) very well. And though the hotel was consistently full, there were no issues with sound or other disruption. To top it off, we left one of our cell phones in the room,- the staff recovered it, key it under lock and key, and are now sending it to us.

The negatives we experienced was the sound of a running commode, which was fixed after the first evening; a creaky shower floor; door key issues related to a battery that needed replacement (and was replaced), and the fact that the pool is adjacent to parking.

We would stay there again on any visit to New River Gorge.

Chose this spot for proximity to our whitewater rafting outfitter, fair reviews in Trip advisor, and overtly negative reviews of other nearby lodging. Would stay here again but valuation is average to below average. Clean, good-sized rooms, decent breakfast. Rooms are very dark. Quirky, LAN internet connection did not work consistently. Our air-conditioning unit shorted out in an electrical storm but were given another room and a 10% discount. Our new room was on the highway & could easily hear semis downshifting well into the night. On the other hand, nice pool and complementary USA Today paper, usually to be found at more upscale place. An older facility with wear & tear beginning to show but nothing fatally wrong with our stay.

Arrived after a fairly stressful drive due to poor weather, driving from Canada to Florida, for a one-night stay. Booked in advance on Choice Hotels website, reserved for $53.10 plus taxes with option to cancel before 6pm on day of arrival, which we felt was reasonable and we liked the flexibility of being able to cancel on the same day if for any reason we couldn't get there.

Staff was very friendly and helpful, and check-in and check-out were quick. Hotel is large, 2 different buildings each with 2 floors with outdoor corridors and stairs; ice and vending machines on the ground floor. There is an outdoor pool with a very large area around it, closed (of course) during our March visit.

Our second-floor room was older but renovated and clean. Everything worked, including the free wireless internet, except for the thermostat on the heater (minor inconvenience - the heater itself worked well). The free continental breakfast in the hotel's gift shop was limited - we've seen bigger at similar hotels - but staff were on hand to replenish everything.

The on-site restaurant and bar was a very pleasant surprise - "Elliotts Whitewater Bar & Grill". We arrived late, tired and cold and decided to have a late dinner here rather than driving into downtown Fayetteville. The steak and chicken specials were really good - great salads, too - and quite reasonably priced, the service was great, and we were really happy to have a good hot meal and just walk back to our room.

Our only annoyance was the extra $1 added to each room bill for the in-room safe. We've seen this at a few Quality Inns recently - it's in the fine print they ask you initial when you check in, and if you don't use the safe you have to ask them to remove it on check-out BEFORE they finalize your bill. Seems petty when the WiFi and breakfast are included in the room price. (It's a good safe, big enough for most laptop computers, but we didn't need to use it.)

Overall, very nice, reasonable value, and we would certainly stay here again.

We arrived at the hotel at 1am and was greeted by a wonderful staff member who accomodated us at a great price. The rooms were spotless, the beds comfortable and they had a free continental breakfast with waffles, bagels, cereal, fruit, oatmeal and juice. We would definitely stay here again.
