“A great experience!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2013

My mom and I spent the night at the Iron Road Inn and were both very happy with our stay. It started with the friendly desk clerk; welcoming and inviting me in like a guest in her home. The entire hotel was non-smoking. Which is a big deal because my mom has COPD. The room was clean and comfy. Everything was laid out well. The WiFi access was easy and the reception very good. In the morning a continental breakfast was available. Not the greatest, but okay. We had breakfast at Bob Evans down the street instead. The price was very fair and reasonable and I think a great value. We were truly pleased with our visit. I would stay there again.

Room Tip: DO NOT eat at the Steer Steakhouse next door.

Room was clean and I liked the motif and feel of the motel. Front desk service was friendly and efficient. Only complaint was the really minimal continental breakfast (basically coffee and donuts). For the $80 something price, I expected a little better. All in all though, I enjoyed my stay.

We stayed a night at this hotel. The lady at the front desk was very friendly. The rooms were clean and we were able to park our motorcycles right outside our room. The price was very reasonable and the breakfast was adequate. Would stay again if in the area.

We went to a nice restaurant - El Gran Sabor. Highly recommend if your in the area. Good food and great prices.

We booked several weeks in advance and ascertained that this hotel does not have an elevator, but there was no problem over being given a first floor room if you have trouble with stairs. On arrival our initial impression was favorable - the lady on the desk was welcoming and efficient and the air-conditioned room was spacious, clean, had plenty of drawers and hanging space and was equipped with a fridge and microwave. The bathroom included two sinks and a good supply of soaps, shampoos, lotions, etc. The Wi-Fi was reliable and easily connected (not always the case by a long way!) A non-functioning floor lamp was fixed within minutes of our mentioning it.

However the next day things got a little funky. We returned from our outing at about 3.30pm to find that the room had not been serviced. I called the desk to ask when we could expect to have it done and got a rather vague response. A few minutes later a couple of the management showed up and told us that "the" maid (!) had had to leave on a family emergency, and what would we like to have done? We thought that should be self-explanatory, but settled for having the bed made up, trash cleared and clean towels which were duly provided.

The next day the maid arrived while we were there. She was anxious that she might lose her job for having been "reported", and we assured her that we had made no personal criticism of her. Burt she arrived empty-handed, and again we were asked what we wanted done. It appeared that she had no standing instructions as to exactly what her job entailed. So we had to ask her to change the sheets and towels, vacuum the floor, etc., which she did.

We were left with the feeling that this hotel does not expect to service occupied rooms daily. If we wanted accommodation on that basis, we would stay in a suites hotel at an appropriately lower rate.

The breakfast that is included in the price was also distinctly minimal; maybe we have been spoiled as we usually stay in Holiday Inn Expresses. We found only coffee, fruit juice, bagels, muffins, bread for toasting and some odd yellow things we couldn't identify. The only cereal offered was instant oatmeal.

But overall we were happy with our stay. This hotel is hospitable and has a unique atmosphere not found in chain hotels. It is located just a few minutes from the town center, and there are a number of restaurants within easy reach including the Steer just across the parking lot. Motorcyclists are welcome. There is a large lounge area with games and reading materials for guests to enjoy. Don't be afraid to give it a try.

Room Tip: The main hotel has two floors with rooms entered from interior corridors, with a separate "Lodg...

on monday Sept. 16 my wife and I and some neighbors of our decided we wanted to take a bike ride to the high mountains of West Virginia so on that day we set out put the bikes in the wind and went as evening approached and the sun was going down we decided to stop in Elkins WV the first motel we went to was full up , cause on a bike you don't really know where you are going to end up, so a lady close by suggested the Iron Road Inn across the street so we pulled in there and was greeted very warmly the lady behind the counted was as good as it gets , she was very receptive of a bunch of tired bike riders the rooms were good and clean the motel was clean a free breakfast in the morning and some rags to wipe the bikes off in the morning and the rates for the rooms were good. It is a good place to stay.

Room Tip: we like the rooms on the bottom floor so as to watch our bikes in the night

I highly recommend this hotel if you are staying in the Elkins area. The staff was friendly and the hotel clean and inviting. It is decorated in a train motif and offers plenty of opportunity for all members of your party to interact outside of your rooms. Off of the main lobby there is a huge room furnished with games, books and magazines as well as a patio out back for enjoying the cool mountain air. There are two buildings to this hotel...a "lodge" with exterior entrance and a two story hotel with interior entrance. We stayed in the hotel with interior entrance and aside from the hallways being a bit dark we were very pleased with our stay. The rooms themselves are furnished with double and queen beds and each room has two sinks in them which was great. This allowed one person to shower while the other was brushing teeth/doing hair/getting ready. The beds were comfortable and a microwave/fridge was standard (no extra charge). Although we didnt partake of it, a continental breakfast was offered until 9am. This hotel does not have a pool. If you find yourself in Elkins, give this hotel a try. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
