I grew up in Elkins, WV and over the years have visited Duke's Steakhouse many times when I return to town. Duke's has moved around a bit.....(first located beside the over-head bridge, then in the old gas-station building, then on the four-lane and most recently in the basement/morgue of the renovated former hospital). Duke's relocated in May to its new basement location. While "moving about"....a few things are always consistent at Dukes....good food and service. I always get the Delmonico steak (comes in three different sizes). My hubby usually gets the baked cod fish. Each dinner comes with salad, choice of potato (fries, mashed, baked or steak fries), bread and veggie of the day (typically peas, green beans or carrots). We usually start with an order of onion rings as an appetizer. Never have room for the home-made desserts (though they do look good). Service is always prompt and friendly and the place is always packed. Food is always delicious. The new location will take some getting used to (no windows and a very "closed in" crowded feeling. Tables felt as though they were almost touching. Restrooms are shared in common with others in the building and are definitely a long walk. Duke's is trying...but atmosphere is definitely lacking. Also, I have to raise a concern about the prices. I know everything increases over time, but our last visit was around $60 with tip (no alcohol) and I think that is high for the type of restaurant. Seems like when they moved, they raised prices also. Good food, good service, but a little pricey for the area and atmosphere is gone.
