“If you are in Elkins Wv”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 25, 2013

Most restaurants in Elkins do a fine job with steaks, chicken, burgers, etc. but El Gran Sabor offer authentic Venezualian food, a welcome change of pace, and a large enough menu to justify at leAst a few dinner there. Check it out

“The real deal”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 31, 2013

Surprising but true - authentic South American food in Elkins. Not Tex-Mex, but the real deal; not highly spiced but flavorful. You can eat in the "fancy" dining area toward the front or the bar area toward the back. We usually would choose the former, but were happier in the latter, thanks to very good live music.

“Awesome”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 6, 2013

My wife and I ate here recently. We both had the Cachapas. I had shrimp and she had chicken. We both loved our meals. The staff was very friendly, the place is homey and clean, and we had a great experience. We will definitely be back.

“Not bad”

Located in a converted house gives it a homey and authentic feel. Their chicken is spiced in a way that it is an acquired taste. The soups are cool, not hot. The staff is nice. Second visit leaves me wondering, as some dishes are awesome and some disappoint.

“Comida Deliciosa de Venezuela = Yummy food from South America!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 11, 2012

My mom lives in Elkins, West Virginia and I wanted to provide her with a special dining experience in her home town. What to do? We headed to El Gran Sabor... meaning "The Great Flavor."

This is a family restaurant where mom works in the kitchen, helps serve the food, and gently scolds her boy in Spanish. The ambiance is homey, nicely decorated with international photography and a few small tables. Most of the other wait staff don't habla, so plan on speaking English.

My mom's favorite dish is the orange flavored shrimp, heavily peppered, over rice. I found the cornmeal-based items a bit bland, so skipped those. The salad may be more than okay, but I opted for the wonderful black beans instead.

There is a bar for those who imbibe. I gave their beverage menu an A-plus for local draft beer brewed in nearby Thomas; particularly the caramel-rich amber. For those that don't imbibe, you can still get your caramel fix by ordering the vanilla flan... plan on sharing.
