“AMAZING!”

Blackwater Falls State Park

In Spring/Winter, I highly recommend arriving before nightfalls. Because the park is located on the mountain, the roads get narrow and some of the curves can get a little ridiculous. But other than that, it is a spectacular drive.

We did about an 8mile hike from the Lodge to the Blackwater Falls and it was such an incredible experience. The trails are well marked and the trails are clean (not overgrown), and maps are offered at the Lodge.

There was a notice to look out for black bears, but we didn't see any. We found some deer running across the park. I wouldn't recommend going on the trails in flip-flops (yes, some actually do) as some of the trails were muddy or overflowed with water.

I can't wait to return.

We stayed at the campground and visited the falls. There is a steep stairway down to the viewpoints from which we got amazing photographs. Another walk (no stairs) allows virtually anyone to get a decent view from above.
Before turning in, we treated ourselves to delicious for (and WIFI) at the Lodge.
The camptites are all turfgrass with trees. Easy to access but not as woodsy as I would like.

WE went on the spur of the moment! Just beautiful and will go back for sure. I want to see it in the fall when the trees change and in the spring!

They falls are the best thing to see but the hidden gem is taking a drive thru the park after dark. It's a great time for the kids to wind down after a busy day. We like to look for wildlife. This past trip we saw 2 rabbits, 6 deer, and about a 125 # black bear up near the petting zoo. We wondered if it wasn't trying to break in for a "snack".

If you don't mind walking about 270 steps this is a great place to visit. If that is too many steps for you, you can still see the falls with only walking about 20 steps. It is beautiful and breathtaking. Great place for pictures.
