“Relaxing trip!”
Reviewed March 3, 2014

Great place to stay and awesome amenities. The resort was very relaxing for my snowboarding trip and I will most definitely come back in the summer for more of my outdoor adventures. I only wish I knew about this place sooner.

Overall we like staying at Glade Springs. It is convenient to Winterplace and their stay and ski package is great. Breakfast buffet is quite good. Only down part for us is the food at the restaurants, although good, too pricey for the area.

Convenient for skiing at Winterplace. Complimentary breakfast is adequate and good for families. The leisure center was a benefit for filler time in the gym and swimming pool although facility was tired.

We've stayed at Glade Springs every year for 4 years as a quick get away. Unfortunately we think it has really lost it's "resort" feel & is average at best.

The pros: We stayed in the main building & had 2 Queen beds. Rooms are nice & large and comparable to any Marriott. The rates were fair I think, $124 plus free breakfast.

The grounds are pretty & we've been in summer and the outdoor amenities are very nice. However being that it's winter we used the large indoor pool, which is in another building & was fine but nothing great. There's bowling but it's pretty pricey.

The negatives: food was really horrible all around. Bunkers Grille was just disgusting with the slowest service & there were maybe 10 people there tops & plenty of staff. The crab bisque was as thick as paste & smelled bad. I gave it back to the waitress but was still charged $5 for it. All of our food was sub standard & for $62 for lunch we should've stopped at Outback on the way there. We had pizza delivered to us that night after skiing & they brought no plates or napkins... So we had to use tissues. The pizza seriously has to be some frozen brand. It tastes so cheap & the crust is thick & hard. Don't waste your money on any food here. Just eat at the local chain places in Beckley. The breakfast buffet was similar to freebies at any small chain hotel... No kids cereal, very little fruit, very little variety. No option to order anything so it's self serve only.

Honestly, if you're going to the area this is the best option to stay period. The 3 rating is really all about the food being so poor & the shuttle service to & from Winterplace-- it's simply not ran frequently enough which was frustrating with a 5 yr old... Drop off only on even hours & pick up only on odd hours. The shuttle driver stopped at a gas station & allowed a group of obnoxious, loud, cursing guys load up on beer. I had to ask twice for them to stop the language but the driver never spoke up. As a mother having a small child I found it very demeaning to allow this & encourage it by stopping to let them buy alcohol when clearly they were already out of control. They mentioned going to "party all night at the pool & bowling alley" so we told our kids we would not be doing any resort activities that night. I heard them say they got their room cheap on Expedia, so THAT's what you get when you lower your standards.

We may stay again but we will not be eating any food or relying on shuttle service for anything within the resort or off the resort.

Excellent service. Very family friendly! Great location to Winter place Ski Resort. Free breakfast buffet was delicious and the wait staff was very accommodating! A great get away for the entire family. There is something offered to meet the needs of all families.

Room Tip: Executive suites are spacious for family of 4.

The Resort at Glade Springs is a really nice property, which I think is relatively unique in this part of the country. My family stayed here for one night only during our two-day ski trip at nearby Winterplace. We couldn't have been happier!

What we liked:
- The room was beautiful, large, and exceptionally clean
- The resort property is huge and beautiful, complete with security at the front gate
- The staff was friendly, particularly those at breakfast - which was also a highlight!

I don't have much in the way of negative news to report. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for someplace upscale to stay in this area. It's not the cheapest, but it's worth the price!

We stayed in one of the Chestnut Hill Lodges (the smaller 4 BR version) and it was nicely decorated with plenty of room for everybody. I didn't realize that the extra double Queen BR could have been locked off with possible rental of part of the lodge. There were beds for 20 (including 3 bunk beds upstairs) and had a sleeper sofa in the living room (for a total of 22).

My only complaint is that there weren't enough dishes/silverware for more than 12 people to eat. I was warned ahead of time to bring a larger pot and utensils if I was planning on cooking for a lot of people.

The kids went to the indoor pool and said it was great and the shuttle was fast to pick them up when they called.

Winterplace ski resort is about 10 miles away, but it's a quick drive.

Room Tip: We were in Chestnut Hill lodge #1 and everywhere was quiet at night.

Dear Susan C,
Thank you for the nice review! I am pleased to see that you enjoyed our Chestnut Hill Lodge as well as our shuttles and pool. I am also pleased that our staff was helpful. I am sorry there wasn't enough dishes and silverware for your party. We stock these with certain amounts in each unit, typically 16 sets in a 4 Bedroom Lodge (combining the kitchenette room and the full kitchen). We are looking forward to your family's next visit; thank you for staying with us!
