“Great Winter Retreat”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 19, 2012

We enjoyed our stay in the Executive Suite with the free lift tickets for Wintergreen ski resort in Feb 2012. The day it rained we went to the Recreation Center and Spa Orange. The express massage from John was amazing. The express pedicure was beautiful. Husband and boy enjoyed basketball, bowling, ping pong, swimming, and hot tub. We all skiied, hiked the trails and had a wonderful weekend.

Room Tip: Executive suites are great for 1 family. The villas are great for 3 families.

Glade Springs is loaded with extras! Their indoor pool and hot tub feel perfect after a great day of skiing. The breakfast buffet is an unbelievable deal included in the room price, as are the pool and their bus over to Winterplace. We also like staying in their condos which have a small stove and refridgerator. It is very clean, convenient and affordable with all the extras they include. It also looks like a wonderful place to vacation at during the summer months, as well.

Room Tip: We like the condos. They are roomy and you can call and have the bus pick you up and take you anywhe...

My husband and 10 month old daughter stayed here for the week. I had read several reviews and was a bit concerned. I will tell you that I was worried for no reason. The resort was wonderful. The staff was so friendly, accommodating, and prompt. When we arrived checking in was quick, instructions and information about our room and the resort was clear and concise and our room in the executive suites was wonderful. The room has been updated nicely with 2 flat screens, contemporary decorum and an updated bathroom. There was a problem right after checking with our Tv and they were there within 5 minutes and had it corrected in less time. The dining for both breakfast and dinner was good. Breakfast was the normal free continental breakfast and dinner at Bunkers was very good. I recommend the spinich/artichoke dip and the wedge salad. We stayed here in order to ski at Winterplace but the weather was so warm that we were only able to ski one day of the four. A bit of advice....there is absolutely nothing to do in Feb/March on WV if skiing is not good.

We went to Glade Springs in late February bringing two 18 year old girls with us. We got the Executive Suite with a good discount code. You get a separate master bedroom with a king bed and a living area with a queen sleep sofa so we could all stay in the one room. The master bedroom was basic. The bed was comfortable, flat screen TV. The overhead light is very dim and only one side of the bed gets a nightstand with a lamp. It made reading in bed difficult. There is one good sized closet but it is in the living area. There is only a dresser in the bedroom. The bathroom was a good size with a large tub. Nicely deorated and nice toiletries. We never used the living area as a living area. The sofa stayed open the whole time because we didn't spend much time in the room. The suites are two story units and we were on the top. There was no noise. I don't know if the people on the bottom floor would say that after we arrived at 11:00pm. Housekeeping evidently came by early in the morning when we were at breakfast. They replaced the towels, but nothing else. No beds made, no additional toiletries.

It was very cold on Saturday and we went for a one hour horse back ride. We were the only ride scheduled for the day so not only did we have the guide, but two other staff members came along to exercise other horses. Amanda was a great guide. Very friendly. You didn't feel like the horses were over ridden at all. But the girls were frozen when the hour was up. Luckily there is an indoor pool and hot tub where they could go warm up. It seemed most people staying at the resort were families who went to Winterplace to ski for the day, so the pool area was nearly empty in the afternoon. We also went to Winterplace in the afternoon hoping to go tubing, but it was packed with church and youth groups and it did not look promising. So we went back to Glade Springs and made use of the bowling alley. Best part was the new shoes they had.

We ate breakfast each day in the rotunda and for me it was exactly what I would expect from an included breakfast. Basic eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes with a ceral and fruit section and toast/party section. It was quite adequate. We ate lunch at Bunker's. The sandwiches were all large and good. The margarita was very large but not the alcohol content. Dinner was a birthday celebration at the Glades Grill. We made a reservation but the restaurant was not full. Things started well with drinks and a salad. Bread was brought after about 30 minutes. We ended up waiting over an hour for our entrees. Our server did her best to explain about the kitchen being shorthanded. The bottom line is, one kitchen serves both the restaurants and Bunkers was packed even though the Glades was not. Once the food came, honestly just about the time I was ready to bag it and go order a pizza, it was very good. We had the salmon, the filet and the pasta. Well prepared but the wait was the down side. But knowing it was all one kitchen, we were able to order a dessert we had seen on the Bunker's menu for the birthday girl.

So overall, it was acceptable. I think families with kids would really enjoy the various activities and the setup. Because it is so family friendly, I would not pick it for a romantic weekend even though it has a spa and golf.

We (myself, my husband, and 4 year old twins) traveled to the Resort at Glade Springs in the middle of February and had a wonderful time.

We stayed in the Inn in a junior suite. Although it was called a junior suite, it was a large one bedroom suite with doors that closed between the living and sleeping area (which is great if you have small children that go to bed early). The bedroom area was a bit cramped with the king bed, but the living area was quite large. The room had a microwave, refrigerator, working fireplace, and large jetted tub. It was quite nice.

Breakfast was included in our package. It was a typical hotel buffet - nothing spectacular, but decent. We dined at Glade's Grill (the more upscale/formal restaurant) one night and had a good meal in a nice environment. We also ate at Bunker's (the sports bar type place), which was good for what it was and perfect for families with kids.

The resort is fairly spread out, so we made frequent use of the shuttle (which always came immediately when requested). The leisure center, although not a sparkling new facility, was very nice offering a lot to do. We only made use of the indoor pool, which is great for families with children (zero entry pool with a large shallow end). There were also several lanes for swimming laps and a hot tub.

We also used the kids' club for a Kids' Night Out one night. It was reasonably priced ($30 for the first child, $10 for each add'l - includes dinner). The kids' club is a nice facility with plenty to do. The kids were taken out for pizza, made use of the leisure center, and played lots of games. My kids had a good time.

Our main reason for coming was to ski (we got the ski for free package, which was a good deal). Thankfully, we picked the one weekend this winter that there was actually snow! Winterplace is a smaller ski resort, but was perfect for our family. We put our kids in ski school for one afternoon and they really liked it. We saw the instructors on the bunny hill the next day and they were very nice to our kids - even helping them out a bit, even though they weren't in class. And having the shuttle between Glade Springs and Winterplace was very nice for our family because while my husband wanted to ski all day - my kids could only last a few hours and they loved riding the bus home.

All in all, we had a very nice trip and have talked about coming back to try out all the summer activities.

Recently all of our family visited The Resort at Glade Springs to snow tube and ski. We stayed in a villa which was an adequate accomodation for the eleven of us. The children enjoyed the leisure center swimming and we all enjoyed bowling. It certainly is family friendly. The package that we had provided a full breakfast each morning as well as lift tickets to Winterplace Ski Resort. There were a few issues with the condition of the villa but they were recified in a satisfactory manner. Overall it was a great experience.

Arrived on a Friday late afternoon, much better than at night since we don't like night driving in mountains. However, even if you plan to arrive at night, it's a much easier drive than to Snowshoe. Checkin went smoothly. Room ready, just as expected. Brought snacks, but decided to go to Bunker bar/restaurant-good idea, since food is very well priced with generous portions and great quality-as in sirloin used for giant hamburger. Bowled afterward at leisure center, $ 15/person for 2 hours or you can pay by the game. No rental fee for shoes.
Next day, had breakfast, included with room deal, then skied at Winterplace. Shuttle available to and from mountain, but we drove since we had our own boots and skis (I'm sure they could have taken these on shuttle, but we didn't know how long we'd be skiing since rain was predicted). Food at Winterplace is mediocre at best. Bring a picnic/sandwich. This is second time skiing there, there was sufficient snow to ski as much as we wanted. Before numerous novice skiers, but most are very polite, very few aggressive skiers there, which is why we love it.
Returned to
Glade Springs resort, had lovely dinner at grill, prix fixe menu, had dessert in bar with fireplace. A guitar player just happened to be there, playing for his friend's birthday. No words to describe the incredible range of songs and skillful acoustic guitar playing. The resort should have entertainment/local talent every weekend-did not ask if they ever did.
Another breakfast next day, check out efficient, but desk staff very eager to hear about our stay and activities. They treat you like family here. You should go-but not too many of you-we like it just like it is!

Room Tip: Bring earplugs if the sound of heater blower kicking on bothers you. King size bed takes up most...
