“The spice was right...”
Reviewed June 12, 2014

Staff was courteous and friendly which made the slight language barrier no problem. But let's face it, when you are dining on authentic ethnic cultures cuisine, language barrier is a good thing. Food was tasty and portion sizes were generous. Prices were reasonable and the restaurant was clean and tidy. If you are looking for authentic Indian cuisine in Charleston, give Sitar of India a try.

“Service is terrible and staff rude”
Reviewed May 31, 2014

Me and my daughter were here for a Chess tournament from Northern Virginia. After having been to several restaurants in Norther Virginia where there are several choices and service is mostly above average to keep up with the competition, this place was terrible. We walkin and it wasn't very busy - just 2 tables. There were 2 inside who were watching us and wouldn't come upfront to get us seated. That itself was an insult. And we sit at the table and order food and - the bread (puri) and some snack. I was under the assumption that it comes with a curry. Being an Indian and he should have known or told us that you will need a Sabji - do you need one. When the Poori come without Sabji he was so rude that he said you didn't order. How am I supposed to know Indian restaurants are like this in WV. He kept telling you have to order but didn't apologize for his mistake or arrogant behavior. I paid and walked out of the restaurant. I don't think he liked Indians walking in to his restaurant. Food quality was average or below average. The one star is just for the environment. Never going back and I would not recommend this for any Indian going to this restaurant. These guys have to visit the Indian restaurants in Norther Virginia to see the standards we have set.

“Best Indian Food in Charleston”
Reviewed May 28, 2014

Having eaten at the other two Indian places and at Indian restaurants in a variety of states and countries, I would highly recommend Sitar of India. Although the ownership has changed hands several times during the past few years, it still retains its great taste. The service is spotty but the food makes the experience satisfying.

“Excellent Indian food”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

Very good Indian food, mostly north Indian. No dosas, or other south Indian entrees. But really good north Indian. We've been going to the Sitar for years. Was excellent under the original owners, hit a real low point when it went through a couple of ownership hands a few years ago, and we quit going. But since 2011 or 2012, current ownership is back to serving terrific Indian food. It's true, the wife who sometimes seats people does not exude charm, even for longtime regular customers - a pinch of 'we're so happy to have you' would be nice. But husband is very nice and friendly, and helpful in ordering when we want out of our usual rut. Atmosphere is fairly good. I hear the lunch buffet is very popular, and good value, but I work a bit far away to go for lunch. Avoid the house wine.
