Owner description: Opened in the summer of 2003, the Clay Center strives to present a variety of arts and sciences all under one roof. The Avampato Discovery Museum is two floors of fascinating interactive science exhibits, while the ElectricSky™ Theater features planetarium shows. In addition there are a large performance hall and a small black-box theater, an art museum, a fun museum shop, and a cafe. There's something interesting scheduled virtually every night here!

“You can't miss the Clay Center!”
Reviewed July 3, 2012

So many activities for the children to explore those young minds, it's a wonderful adventure for school aged children. And the center always has activities going on. Your children will love the Clay Center!

“Ernie Haase and Signature Sound were great there.”
Reviewed July 2, 2012

Ernie Haase and Signature Sound were in concert there about two years ago and it was fantastic. The Clay Center would do well to have them back!

“Excellent venue for a variety of shows.”
Reviewed June 26, 2012

The Clay Center has multiple venues to accomodate a variety of shows - we saw the New Rope String Band in a smaller theater. The seats were comfortable fold ups with visability & sound good from any seat. I wlould expect the larger theater to be an excellent place for a show. We were just passing through and found the show, part of Festivall, online and highly recommend you check the center's web site it you plan a stopover in Charleston.

“Mediocre hands-on science museum, poor art gallery, nice imax”
Reviewed June 26, 2012

The kids science museum is fairly small and limited and showing the results of poor maintenance. Everytime we've been there a lot of the exhibits have had things wrong with them. I'd invest in a trip to Cinci or Columbus instead. The theatre is nice and it's good go have one in Charleston.

The art gallery has a 3rd rate permanent collection. Again, go to Columbus, Cinci or Pittsburg instead. There have been some nice travelling exhibits.

All in all, it's say it's an overpriced mediocre facility. Better than nothing, but the kids science attraction is mostly good for school trips for kids who won't get to anything better.
