Description: Charleston's authentic farm-to-table made-from-scratch modern comfort food restaurant. With a legion of chefs who caringly practice the art of food, BgK offers delicious brunch, dinner, and desserts for hungry vegetarians, meat connoisseurs, and everyone in-between. In the circa 1920 building with pressed tin ceilings and exposed architecture, Bluegrass also serves as a gallery for local artists. In the Tap room there's live original acoustic music most nights, with finely crafted cocktails, a curated wine list & a bounty of beers. Close to West Virginia's beautiful capitol grounds the family-owned and operated Bluegrass Kitchen has been featured in The New York Times and Wall Street Journal as well as Bon Appetit, Garden & Gun, Taste of the South magazines and many more.

“A Local Favorite”
Reviewed November 3, 2012

My wife and I eat here wife friends a couple of times a year and always enjoy it. Others have described it as eclectic, and I would say that is fairly accurate. The menu is not extensive, but it always has good options, including some organic and vegetarian options. I can recommend the trout with grits. The wine list always has some good choices at reasonable prices.

If you are not local, or have never been there, knowing a few things in advance might help you enjoy your visit. First, reservations are a good idea, especially if you are going on a weekend. Second, the restrooms are simply poor, so expect that in advance and try to avoid using them unless you have to. Third, the service is not particularly fast, but we know that in advance and plan on enjoying the company as we wait. Fourth, the bands in the adjoining room can get loud, so plan on eating before they start - unless they are why you are going, of course.

“Eclectic to say the least!”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

We arrived around 6:15 p.m. on a Friday night and the place was packed. As there was a football game that night, close to the restaurant, we had to wait about 30 minutes for a table. During our wait, the service seemed to be lacking, as they didn't check back with us or seemed to be concerned about our wait. However, once we were seated, and ordered our meal, it came fairly son and was delicious. I had the Rib Eye and it was done to perfection and very tasty! Great food, but others I have talked to about this restaurant, were concerned about service also. So be aware of this glitch in the armor!

Was recommended by our hotel, so we tried it for dinner. Glad we did. I had the summer veggie pasta and it was the tastiest I have ever eaten. It looks informal inside.

I always enjoy coming here. A limited menu but what is offered will not disappoint . Tasty lunch choices , good and efficient service , close to the Capitol. There is free parking in the back.

“Tasty food, hipster vibe.”
Reviewed October 13, 2012 via mobile

This was a nice sojourn on our West Virginia road trip. A Yelp reviewer referred to a Portland hipster vibe about the place and as Oregonians, we can confirm that. However, the clientele represented a broad range in age and level of hipness. The menu was interesting, but still approachable, with options for carnivores and veggies alike. I had a chicken sandwich and side salad. Portions were generous and the food was yummy.
