“Consistently Marriott....”

Nice hotel. Lobby and restaurants are being updated and it was under construction. Nice room. Good view. Breakfast buffet was great and the service was top notch. Service and quality rooms are why we continue to stay at Marriott properties.

Room Tip: Get a high floor for a good view I believe there are 18 floors?

Location is fine, resturant is still supbar. Overpriced and food was undercooked. Gym/pool area still hasn't been renovated - not sure if it will be. Rooms are finally up to date and look great. I stay at this place 3 times a year and it is improving. Staff is generally friendly. Concerige lounge is still very average considering how good they are at other properties. They jacked up the rate which is no surprise - have to pay for capital improvements.

I have stayed at this property a half dozen times over seven years. Overall, this is a great property and one of the most upscale in the city. During the seven years, I have seen the condition of the property decline. The decor was outdated and the furnishing was noticeably worn out. Upon my arrival in July 2012, I noticed the hotel went under a rather extensive renovation.

Everything about the room was modern. The rooms had a minimalist style decor. The colors were understated. My room was impeccably clean. This property has wide hallways on the floors that provide a sense of security. You can see everything around you.

The lobby is the nerve center of the hotel and is generally busy. The gym and pool are adequate and the food in the restaurant is impressive. It is located in the heart of Downtown Charleston and is in walking distance of a major mall and adjoining restaurants (mostly chain restaurants). .

My contact with the staff was minimal. In my view, this is a good thing. Since I did not have any reason to contact the staff, is a sign that they hotel has done their job in providing me with a good experience.

i was in charleston overnight on business with 4 other coworkers....when we arrived we were met out front by the bellhop....is that the appropriate word nowadays? he asked for our credit cards and id to bring in to the front desk because they were jackhammering inside and the front desk clerk would not be able to hear us.....it was really an unusual situation but we were checked in within minutes so i guess it was more efficient that standing at the counter trying to talk over the noise.....they are doing renovations and it was REALLY loud in the lobby....we were assured they would stop at 5pm and we wouldn't be able to hear the noise in our rooms.....they were right.....the room was spacious and very quiet.....i was excited when i saw i had a small balcony but disappointed that the door didn't open up more than 4 inches....i would have loved to stand out on the balcony for some fresh air......
we asked the front desk for suggestions on where to have dinner and the they were wonderful enough to provide an extensive list of restaurants in the area......i don't recall the gentleman's name but he was extremely helpful.....the staff in general was VERY pleasant and helpful.....
the only negative i found was charging for in room wifi......come on people.....this is 2012.....internet should be an amenity.....not an additional charge.
i'm not sure how much longer til they're completely done remodeling but wouldn't mind staying here again if i'm in the area.....

Rooms are much better than before
Lobby under refurbishment and nearly finished. It will be beautiful with log fire and sofas
Gym and pool OK
Bar is great - staff still remember you after > 1 year!
Perfect location to walk to nearby restaurants
Expensive but busy - must be the going rate!

Check in process is smooth and effortless, however I don't recall the parking fees being disclosed during reservation or check in ($12/day). Lobby being renovated, was not able to see or experience the new look. King room was located on the 16th floor (highest) and did not receive a good nights sleep due to constant humming of machinery and air conditioners. Pillow selection for a king bed was inadequate and very soft (no neck support). Our option was to sleep with the decorative pillows or double up on the smaller pillows.
Love that Marriott is updating all properties and giving a fresh clean look - the fabric colors and texture selections are nice. The bathrooms are nice as well.
We had breakfast at the Whitewater Cafe and they had a range of selections - the best deal was the all American - $10 includes 2 Eggs, Meat, Bread, Potatoes, Juice and Coffee!
We'd stay again when visiting the area, there's a mall right across the street - be sure to request a room on floors 10-14 for a view with minimal noise.

Room Tip: 15th and 16th views have obstructed view of concrete balcony wall and additional noise from rooftop...

I stay in this hotel twice a week and am very familiar with it, as well as other marriott properties. The location is the best in Charleston (right accross the street from the mall) and close to several restaraunts, both casual and find dining. The gym and indoor pool are very nice. The hotel is older, but the rooms have been recently renovated and they are going to renovate the lobby this fall. The best part of the hotel is the service. The concierge lounge attendants are wonderful with Carmen in the evening and Brian in the monrings. They will make you feel quite at home. Downtown charleston is very nice and quaint and the hotel is only 4 blocks from the historic capitol street with many drink and dinner options, with some lively nightlife. My only complaint is the wireless service in the rooms is somewhat slow and needs updating. 1-13mb/sec is common. The lobby is much better to get a good signal.
