We called the Inn on a Saturday morning asking for just a one night stay and they graciously agreed. Usually they require a 2 night stay on the weekend. The inn is lovely--well kept and very clean. They gave us a tour along with the history behind it when we arrived. They have a dessert in the dining room for guests in the afternoon/evening. Donn's poundcake was the best that I have ever had. He said that it was his grandmother's recipe. Donn and Marie were very helpful with restaurant recommendations.
Breakfast was delicious--they bent over backwards to accomodate my food allergies. The inn is just 6 miles or so from Harpers Ferry. We hope to stay there again sometime.

My wife and I spent 5 nights at the Carriage Inn in Charles Town. This was plenty of time for a good evaluation and our overall rating was excellent. One can always nitpick and find something to complain about but for us it’s all about the hospitality and do you feel at home.
Well, this was the best B&B experience ever for us. Donn and Marie make you feel that their home is yours. Breakfast was outstanding. We got to know Donn and Marie very well during out long stay and felt that we were leaving family when we departed. There is nothing they would not do to insure you have a great stay. The house is typical of the historical homes in the Charles Town area and restored to the Civil War period. There is no comparison to returning to their home at the end of a day of sightseeing to freshly baked cookies and friendly conversation with Donn and Marie verses some franchise hotel. We will certainly return, not for such a place to sleep overnight, but to visit our new friends. This B&B is within walking distance of the downtown area and the neighborhood is full of historical homes. I know because I grew up in Charles Town and we are looking to another visit to this B&B in the future.

Room Tip: Mary Rutherford Room in front has a closet

We stayed one night in the Mary Rutherford Room at the end of a weeklong Civil War battlefields trip. We were hoping just to wind down and relax before a long drive home. We could not have made a better choice! The Inn is located in the historic district, and it's a just a short, pleasant walk to restaurants and shops in the center of town. Donn and Marie are wonderful hosts. Donn will tell you the fascinating history of the house (which is on the Civil War Trail) and Marie will be sure that everything is just perfect for your stay. they serve a delicious (and filling) breakfast in a lovely formal dining room, and have coffee, tea and cold drinks available at all times. The rooms are elegantly decorated and totally comfortable...combining historical ambience with modern amenities like wi-fi. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We arrived at the Carriage Inn after a long chilly day at the Summit Point raceway. The inn is tastefully decorated, and the grounds are well kept. We were cordially greeted by Donn, who gave us the history of the house, a great recommendation for dinner (Dish in Charles Town), then allowed us to relax and regroup. We stayed in the Mary Rutherford room, and really enjoyed the comfortable bed and gas fireplace. Breakfast was savory and satisfying, and Marie was nice enough to wrap up our muffins (one of several tasty parts of our meal) for a mid-morning snack, since we needed to be back at the track. We felt welcomed and well-treated, and will return when we get a chance, hopefully for a more leisurely visit.

Room Tip: Toward the back of the house, less street noise.

Donn and Marie made our stay at the Carriage Inn the best ever. The food was terrific. They were so helpful with restaurant selections and directions on great places to go. We stayed four nights in the Shenandoah Suite. By the time we left it felt as if we were leaving a favorite cousin's house. Donn and Marie know the history of this bed and breakfast which they share. It makes your stay more interesting. Charles Town is a town that has something for everyone. A quaint main street with an historical walking tour, as well as, a casino and horse racing. We enjoyed the Civil War Battlefield, Harpers Ferry, Oatlands Plantation and visiting local wineries. This was a relaxing and enjoyable trip.

We can't even imagine a better place to stay than there. First Donn and Marie made us feel like family from the first moment, and that carried though the whole stay. Second, the house has a history that puts you right into the Civil War and Donn and Marie know the facts. Thirdly, each breakfast was better than the last. We had a wonderful time and were made to feel like it was our home too, which was so nice.
