We had a 6:30 reservation, made weeks ago, and they left a message in the afternoon to confirm our 5:45 reservation -- no explanation and we did not get the message until 6. But here's why they moved it up without consulting with us or giving us any warning: they had a private party of 17 in an upstairs room and simply could not handle that and customers in the restaurant. We waited a half hour for a very simple appetizer and another full hour for our entrees. At one point ALL the servers left the dining room to serve the private party and were gone for at least 15 minutes. Appalling service and mediocre food. We have gone here for many years, but never again. There are too many other restaurants in Berkeley Springs that actually value their customers and serve good (and decently priced) food.

I've eaten here twice. Mediocre food at high-end prices. There's more to good food than French terminology. Service terrible. 8:15 reservation, entrees arrived at 9:55. Waitress never looked us in the eye or offered any apology or explanation. And they weren't understaffed. Kitchen must have been overwhelmed. Many people love this place. I just don't get it. Granted, Berkeley Springs doesn't have a huge selection of restaurants, but if you're going to shell out $150 for two people (including wine), then save it for someplace that's friendly and worth it.

We had dinner at Lot 12 the first of May and it was wonderful. My husband had the duck and enjoyed it very much. I had the special, soft shelled crab, and thought it was the best thing I ever ate. Our waitress was exceptional as was the service. I hope I get the chance to diner here again. It was expensive but you get what you pay for.

First off, the "trick bag" is any impossible situation, similar to a Catch 22. I ordered a New York strip and my wife had the fish special. The restaurant was full (and a bit hot.) We saw lots of meals being brought out to tables around us. We waited nearly 15 minutes for our entrees to come out after finishing our first course. I knew why, when my steak came out. It was cooked correctly, medium rare/medium, but it was cold. The shitake was luke warm and the mashed potatoes were tepid, as well. My wife's meal wasn't very hot either.

The waitress didn't come around right away to ask about my steak--I told her it was cold, which it was by this time she came by to inquire. She took it back to the kitchen, bringing it back well done, in about 10 more minutes! Another waitress/manager asked me about it--I told her it was over done! Ah, the trick bag--if a steak is served and is not hot? What do you do? Put it back on the grill to overcook it? Tough problem.

Now they offered to cook another one, and to not charge me for it. Nice gesture, but, dinner is now delayed another 15 minutes while they cook it. The manager appears with the new steak, is very nice, but, the new steak is underdone this time! Ah, the second trick bag. When the customer is waiting for a new steak, do you hurry up and serve it, even if it is still mooing? Oh, and the potatoes were nuked and nearly burned my mouth. And, the second dish had fried shoestring onions. Huh? Check please.

To be fair, it's a tough problem when you're in the trick bag, and they were nice in the way they handled it. The secret? Don't get in the trick bag to start with: deliver the meal on time, serve a hot steak and ask how the customer likes it as soon as you can.

My husband and I have been dining at Lot 12 for several years. We have brought friends there many times, but this weekend just he and I dined. The food was incredible as always (the special was filet mignon), as was the service and of course the wine. Every course was prepared which such amazing detail from the flavor to the presentation. It is truly a one of a kind restaurant, and without a doubt my favorite restaurant in this area, or anywhere for that matter. Thank you Betsy and Damian (and staff) for another wonderful dinner!
