“The place to go for a hot spring”
Reviewed September 16, 2007

Berkeley Springs is one of my favorite places to go to. I like to go at least 3 times a year. I especially like going in the fall when the tree the colors are peak. The town looks quaint at Christmas too!

The hot springs are relaxing and not expensive at all. I like to go for a 1/2 hour soak and then meander over to the State Park facilities for a 1/2 hour massage. It's best to call ahead for an appointment at both facilities.

The antique mall carries a variety of items that are reasonably priced.

I always like to stop by Tari's Cafe for dinner when I go to Berkeley Springs...it's the best!

“A Very Pleasant Time Away from It All”
Reviewed September 26, 2005

We have been frequenting this facility for nearly ten years and always enjoy either an afternoon or morning of relaxing pleasure.

Do not expect luxury or beauty here. Rather, close your eyes and listen to the fans hum while you soak in a hot bath of spring water. The place oozes with character and you can set yourself in the 1940's, 50's or today - whatever you choose to dream of.

I find the Roman baths a bit overwhelming and prefer to soak in the large bathtubs. My wife prefers the "iron lung" steam machine, but it has been out of operation our last two trips.

The massages are good - more of an extended rubdown in my book - but pleasant and relaxing. The prices are very reasonable and you will no doubt leave feeling you got everything you paid for.

Keep you expectations in line and you will have a fine time at this wonderful little bath house. Be sure and call ahead for reservations. You can call toll free to the West Virginia Tourism HQ and ask to be transferred to the Berkeley Springs State Park. The number is ---.

“No Frills = Relaxing”
Reviewed December 30, 2004

A state park right in the very small town of Berkeley Springs, WV, which is comprised of a hot spring and bath house, both open to the public. Professional massage, etc., but in a completely no frills setting. The bath house is like an old gym: safe, clean, but totally institutional. Berkeley Springs itself (the town) is poor and not as attractive as you'd expect. There is only one decent, and over-priced, hotel (Country Inn, which is neither in the country nor, strictly speaking, an inn). I enjoyed my stay in the Springs as an experiment but it's simply not worth the general weirdness. The people in town are not especially friendly (WV is neither Southern nor Yankee which = not hospitable or outgoing). It all seems rather desperate and lost, like the rest of WV. If you go, stay in nearby Hancock, MD, which is an even grimmer town, but at least there's more life in it. I mean, George Washington used to stay in Berkeley Springs. Get with it, people! You have a gold mine under your coal-dusty feet.
