Lake Stephens is a large beautiful reservoir that offers boating, waterskiing, fishing, swimming and camping with a marina, beach, tent campground and RV campground. Lake Stephens is accessed by following Harper Road (Rt 3) west from I77, exit 44 nine miles; on the right will be Lake Stephens Road well marked with a large stone sign. We stayed in the RV campground where all sites are full hook-up (electric, water, sewer) at a very reasonable rate. The only thing that we found peculiar, and a negative, is that despite the hugeness of the overall grounds of the park, the sites in the RV campground are very tight and treeless. In fact, there is just enough room to angle your RV in, to pull out your slide-outs and awning over the picnic table and no more. Fire rings are actually located across the access road (used to pull your rig out when departing) from your site and you park your tow vehicle or car on the road behind your RV. Wi-Fi is available at no charge but reliability was spotty. Everything considered we felt RV camping here was a real value as long as you don’t plan to spend a lot of time at your site. We used it primarily as a base of operations to explore the New River area so it served us fine. It looked like most others were using it as a place to stay while spending most of the day boating, fishing and swimming. If only they used a little bit more of the available land and made the sites larger, this campground could have been a real winner.
