“Park disgraceful”

Grandview State Park
Ranked #3 of 13 things to do in Beckley
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed August 4, 2013

Our family went to breakfast this morn. Sun. Aug. 4th 2013 and we found the park disgraceful. Dirty park is not being kept up at all. Need to spend some money to make it where people will want to visit. Very disappointed normally come at least 3 times during the summer mths. Have no desire to come again. Would not recommend it this year to anyone unless you get to work and spend many hrs, cleaning it up.

Come for the beautiful majestic scenery of the New River which is a National River. Breathtaking beauty of the Mountain State. You will soon realize why it is called Grandview.

Beautiful views, both easy and hard trails, something for everyone. Playgrounds, camping, picnicking. Should not share this, but as a local one of our favorite things to do is take a backpack picnic up to the top of Turkey Spur and sit on one of the benches on top of the world and enjoy our lunch in peace and quiet! Do wear good shoes if you are going to do the Canyon Rim Trail and any of the more difficult ones and watch the little ones carefully. The Outdoor Theater is fantastic. Always has 3 live plays during the summer (Always Honey in the Rock-story of WV becoming a state and the Hatfield and McCoys). This year they are doing Wizard of Oz I believe also. Always great acting and a good experience. We have traveled all over the US just about and this is definitely as beautiful as anything we have seen, of course everywhere has their own special beauty.

We took a Father's Day trip, my sister and her family and me with mine. Stopped here to see the bridge and views. It was nice and clean, great exhibits and the paths were nice and paved around the visitor's center. My Dad isn't "old" but his health isn't fabulous so it this was a great stop for him to see things safely.

We visited Grandview on a summer day in July.

The Grandview section of the park features include overlooks of the New River, a visitor center few hiking trails. I also noticed an outdoor theatre, but didn't stay long in the evening to catch the show. The views are pretty awesome. Do not miss going to the Turkey Spur overlook. You can either drive to it from the Main overlook or take the Grandview Rim Trail. The roads are pretty narrow in case you decide to drive, so just be careful. I can't wait to go back there during Fall.
