“Older property and a little worn but happy with breakfast”
Reviewed July 6, 2010

A little disappointed with the quality of the hotel for the price. Room looked worn, as well as the tile in the bathroom. You had to hold the handle down for a bit to get the toilet to flush. Towels were pretty thin. I felt it was more a 2+ diamond AAA property, instead of a 3. The beds were firm but not plush and comfortable and the carpet seemed a little damp. For $100 a night, I expected more. The front desk people were very nice and efficient and the breakfast was very good. That was the highlight of the whole stay. They kept the breakfast area very clean and well stocked. I liked the fact that they had hard boiled eggs and it was a big plus to have sealed containers of fruit available.

If you take the stairs, be aware that the lobby is on the second floor. I went down to floor one and it was like a basement.

The hotel prices in Beckley were running pretty high and I expect it is because it is in the middle of nowhere and if you are traveling from afar, you do need a place to stay. On our return trip we stayed in Huntington, WV, instead, at a new Towneplace Suites.

I would stay here again, if I stayed in Beckley, because honestly I don't know if the other properties are any better. We are Platinum Marriott reward members, so we prefer their properties. There was a Courtyard by Marriott very close by but their rates were much higher and the hotel didn't look inviting from the exterior. Plus, no breakfast buffet.

My son had left some "grammy money" on the dresser. We called the hotel while driving down the freeway. Within two days the $20 was in the mailbox. That is why they get the five stars. The room was fine, just fine. A typical older Fairfield Inn. A little worn, but not bad. It was clean. The linens were as expected. Having just spent 30% less at a four star hotel via Priceline it is hard to call this a "good value" for the money, but it was okay.
The front desk people were helpful and the breakfast was above average. Loved the waffles.
Easy on and off the highway. No complaints. Would stay again.

This Fairfield in Beckley, WV is older, but doesn't feel old. Kudos to the staff at this Marriott... this is the way a hotel should be run! The front desk staff were as friendly and helpful as could be, the breakfast was plentiful, well stocked, tables were cleared and wiped often, etc. Rooms had the typical Marriott bedding, amenities, etc. The only drawback (which is good for Marriott, not so good for customers), is the area has such high demand in the Summer they sell out every weekend. We saw 2 families come in after 8pm looking for rooms that were turned away. Because of the demand, the rates at this hotel are high. Other than that, great stay and great job!

My husband and I usually stay at a Hampton, but decided to stay at Fairfield as it was cheaper and we only needed a place to sleep for one night. The quality of the bed and bedding was excellent, and the room was furnished with a desk, fridge, and microwave. Breakfast offered a choice of one hot entree, and plenty of continental items. In our opinion this inn was equal in quality to a Hampton Inn for less the cost.

My husband and I stayed here en route to South Carolina from PA. We were concerned when we were given the room right next to the front desk, assuming we would hear every little noise from people coming in and out of the hotel. Fortunately, we could not hear a thing. The next morning, we thought we'd try ou the free breakfast before hitting the road - it was fantastic! Tons to choose from and very fresh. Unfortunately for us, we left in the a.m. and forgot our pillows (which we always travel with) in our room. We called upon realizing this and the desk clerk went and checked the room himself, retrieved our pillows and promised to send them right out to our home address. It was no hassle whatsoever and our pillows arrived at our home address when we returned from our vacation. Great people to deal with, clean hotel, great breakfast, great location. Would definitely stay here again!

We stayed at this hotel for a Memorial Day Weekend for a white water rafting trip. The hotel is clearly a bit older, and ready for some updating. The staff was friendly, and the included breakfast was good. There was an outdoor pool that looked pretty small. Since we were only here a couple of nights it was fine and served its purpose as a place to sleep. It was a good value, but will probably go elsewhere for my next stay.

Hotel was in a great location, close to interstate and lots of places to eat close by. Room was clean and hotel staff was friendly. Would stay again. The only compliant I have is the breakfast did not start until 7 and we were on the road by 6:30. Would have been nice to get the free breakfast instead we had to stop somewhere.
