“Great food - average ambiance and service”
Reviewed March 8, 2014

The food was great. After the server dropped off my food he didn't check back with me. I was only 1 of two tables in the restaurant! The building had been "refurbished" meaning it is now also a casino as well as a restaurant. The furniture is still the same furniture from the 1970's. I would eat here again alone. I wouldn't entertain anyone here.

“Get with it on the menu.”
Reviewed March 5, 2014

They have spent a lot of money on refurbishing the building but the food or maybe the kitchen staff needs a serious updating and refurbishing. I ordered the Teriaki Chicken. A piece of rubbery chicken with yoshidas squirted on top. Iceburg lettuce salad with a chlorine after taste. Get with it don't you ever watch Kitchen Nightmares on the food network. People have more sophisticated tastes these days and expect so much better than 1960's food fare.

“Good food, Great Service”
Reviewed December 7, 2013

We were greeted immediately upon entering the restaurant. Everyone was pleasant and very helpful. Our food was served in a timely manner. Good selection on the menu. My food was cooked appropriately and was very good. Baked items and desserts were fabulous. We often stop here when we travel to Seattle. Never a bad meal over 30 plus years. Although there are new owners the food and serve seem to have remained the same.

The restaurant is beautiful. The food was awful. We had the special steak meal. The steak was tuff and thin. We paid $25 for this meal and it rated some thing from Denny's. DO NOT ORDER THE DESSERT! It is dry and old

“Gave it a try, doesn't live up to its "reopened" hype”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

We went for Breakfast on Labor Day 2013 about 8:30 a.m. Inside has been cleaned up some from previous owners. It was closed between owners for several months. Opened as a Casino/Cardroom, closed again for months and then opened recently. Only a few other tables were occupied and staff was one waitress and one bus-girl. Despite being short staffed they were hustling so service wasn't the problem.

Interior entry has been spiffed up some and tired old gift shop was thankfully gone but dining area is all crammed into what used to be the coffee shop and the more formal dining room is gone.

Breakfast was mediocre, warm but not hot. Wife's fried potatoes were mushy like they sat on the cool side of the grill not crisp like they had just been grilled. My French Toast was just OK. We both had eggs which were OK (over easy). Bacon was, well, just bacon and kind of greasy. We both had coffee which was typical restaurant fare and added to the breakfast price.

About the time we were served people started to come in more rapidly and thankfully an additional waitress was on duty. It seemed to us people waited quite a while but we didn't hear complaints.

Breakfast was $25 and change incl. coffee at $2.29/cup which seems to us a premium price for just average restaurant coffee. With a tip we were over $30. Woodland is a small rural town of just over 5,000 pop. about 30 miles north of Portland and so a $30 breakfast for two seemed on the high side in this setting but we could easily have spent more.

We will probably not return as there are at least two better choices in town at that price level and if you want to go a few miles to LaCenter you can get equal quality at lower prices. Too bad after spending all that money on remodel and time that it is pretty much the same tired menu. Give the wait staff a plus for hustle though.
