“Stellar Country Lodge in Woodinville Wine Country”
Reviewed February 19, 2013

Willows Lodge has been the subject of press and guest raves ever since it opened, but that can create difficult expectations for first-time guests like us. Will we be truly blown away as others have been, or might the place be resting on its many laurels by now? But our worries were soon forgotten after a short time in this luxe accomodation. Front desk staff provided a warm and personal greeting, amplified by a welcome glass of red wine (as befits wine country). Our first glimpse of our "better" room only reinforced our impression of this being an extraordinary place to stay, with relaxing decor and many amenities. Our only disappointment at the outset was that all spa services were already booked for this holiday weekend (our fault, not theirs). But a more tangible disappointment -- the only one of our relaxing one-night stay -- occurred at departure time. We had been granted a late checkout of one hour and used that time for a long walk on the neighboring river trail, but when we returned to clean up and pack, it turned out that some sort of water maintenance service was being conducted and there was no hot water for the shower. We strongly believed that all guests should have been notified of this water interruption prior to it occurring, but that had not happened. After much back-and-forth with the front desk, we were allowed to shower in another wing of the hotel -- not convenient, but better than nothing. This might well have marred our overall impression of Willows Lodge, except that the front desk made offered sincere apologizes and a generous reduction in our bill at check-out. Both helped immensely reduce our disappointment, although we had to admit we've never encountered such a presumably plannned but unannounced hot water interruption at any hotel previously. Assume Willows Lodge will not let this situation happen again to future guests.

Room Tip: We paid more for the Do Not Disturb Package and felt that its amenities indeed were worth the added...

Thank you so much for staying with us and for taking the time write this review. We are very pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay. We appreciate hearing the feedback on how we could have handled our brief hot water outage a bit better as we are always looking to improve. This team made an effort to get the hot water flowing again quickly, communicate to guests while not wanting to wake anyone up early and make any accommodations needed for the inconveniences that did occur. Thank you for being understanding on this situation and again we are so very pleased to hear you enjoyed our time overall.

Let me know if there is anything I may do to be of service in the future.

Best regards,

Matt

The Herb Garden Suite at the The Willows is quite sweet, with Victorian styled furnishings and rubber duckies on the edge of the bathtub. Although the room was a bit smaller than I expected, there was plenty of room to move around. The service at the hotel is its best feature. We were visiting for our 40th anniversary and had chocolate covered strawberries waiting in the room when we arrived. This was after receiving a small glass of local wine at check-in. Each time I called the front desk or the restaurant, I was greeted by name (and they pronounced it correctly). Each request was met with kind attention and prompt service. It's a great place to celebrate a special occasion with two wonderful restaurants on the property.

We booked a room to celebrate our wedding, just for the two of us, a week after the actual wedding. At the check in we were pleasantly surprised with room upgrade. We've got the best room in a house. Thank you for that !!!

The stuff was incredibly attentive and helpful throughout our stay.
I made a mistake at the restaurant by ordering duck, which I craved for months, the server did his best by explaining what it was going taste like, .....
and I still ordered it hoping it was going to be crispy... And it wasn't,,, exactly as the server told. Oh me.....
I can't say that the atmosphere at the restaurant was super romantic, but it was pleasant. I also need to add that I'm not a big fan of Victorian style (to be specific ... of floral patterns on upholstered furniture). this said, if you are you will totally enjoy the seating along the wall with windows.

Our room:

Bathtub was nice so were bubbles.
I'd like to let other guests know that if you are like us..... 5'9 and taller it is a bit tight to fit two people in one bathtub

I absolutely don't see why some other reviewers were complaining about the lack of privacy at the toilet area. There is a sliding door, you can totally choose to close it or not.

Also if you are looking for exclusively romantic atmosphere here is what you need to know.
The setting of the living room has a corporate feel to it. The couch in front of the fireplace and the chairs made me feel like its a business trip a bit.

Loved the big windows.

Thank you so much for staying with us at Willows and for taking the time to write the review. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your upgrade to The Herbfarm Suite which as you experienced has a different feel than the rustic Northwest decor of the lodge. We appreciate the nice comments you made about the team as we take such pride in creating the favorite getaway in the Northwest.

Warm regards,
Matt

Rendevoused with family and friends at this charming, intimate, cozy lodge over the holidays. The staff was genuinely attentive and offered a wine tasting at checkin! Our room was upscale modern, with interesting design features including a soak tub and a corner fireplace. Great view of outside garden and surroundings and very tranquil. We really enjoyed the ambience and the feel of the lodge itself. There is a pleasant bar area right off the main lobby to meet for a glass of wine and while there we noticed so many guests arriving with their dogs! The hotel is apparently very dog friendly and welcoming to pet owners. Being a country environment this is a great place to bring a dog as there are walking trails right outside the property. As others have mentioned, the Barking Frog restaurant is adjacent and we had a wonder holiday meal there. This is a place to come to - outside the city and enjoy all of the close by wineries or unwind in their onsite spa. This is a special place with a hint of magic!

Lots of attention to design of both the hotel and the gardens, and high-end furnishings and fixtures throughout. Clean, and pet-friendly! Adjacent to a paved walking/bicycle trail, river, Red Hook Brewery and across the street from St. Michelle Winery's beautiful site.
But what made this place really special over our 5-night stay was the attitude and service-orientation of all the staff whom we encountered. Starting with the bellman, who delighted in telling us about the sources of the huge recycled beams, the pool table slate tables and the marble in the bath vanity. We encountered similar friendliness and enthusiasm throughout our stay from front desk staff, valets, and housekeeping.
On our last day, smoke from a guest room triggered a fire alarm and the hotel was evacuated. But the Bellman retrieved our aged dog from our room when we couldn't get back in, and General Manager Matt Hagerman was out in front as we left to thank us and apologize for the commotion.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the gardens.

Althought a bit pricey, the room was wonderful, the spa day everything we had hoped for, the hotel staff very helpful, and the food amazing. Try out the prawn and scallops at the Barking Frog for the best seafood you have ever tasted. We will definitely be doing this again!
