“Good value, clean rooms, lovely setting.”
Reviewed July 9, 2009

We stayed one night at the Rio Vista. The desk staff was friendly & helpful. I can honestly say our expectations were exceeded. The room was clean & neat & as an added bonus, backed right onto the river, giving us a lovely view of the scenery and wildlife. The location of the hotel is very central & directly across the street is a very interesting mining museum (if that's your "thing"). We would have absolutely no hesitation in staying there again or recommending this hotel to friends.

Our expectations were low since the price for our Deluxe King was only $115. Instead our room was attractive, very clean, comfortable and had a wonderful view of the river where deer grazed so we were thrilled!! Great location for walking to dinner and making access to x-country skiing. Also the view from the hot tub was amazing.

My wife and I booked a one night stay at the Hotel Rio Vista over Memorial Day weekend for $125.00. The first thing I noticed when I walked in the room was the rushing river only a few feet from our outside porch...AMAZING. It is very hard to find a hotel so close to a river with so much activity.

The second thing I noticed was the lackluster room. For $125.00 we expected more. If this room wasn't mere feet from the river I wouldn't have expected to pay more than $70.00. The decor was minimal, we had a small little bug on our pillow, and the bathroom was cold, dark, and outdated.

I do realize that we weren't staying in a big city hotel - this was WINTHROP a western style time capsule of a town - very nice and fun for tourists such as ourselves, but the room needed a makeover to give it a much cozier feel. The river view steals the show, and I would consider staying again, just for the sake of the rushing water, but if we ever stay in Winthrop again, we'll probably search for other hotels that have a similar river experience.

Our cross country ski club enjoyed a wonderful week at the Hotel Rio Vista. There were 17 people in our group and Ann, the manager, was very accomodating and helpful when making our reservations. She arranged to be available when we arrived later than expected due to the closure of some of the mountain passes. She also arranged for a microwave for a guest with special dietary needs. Her knowledge of the area and restaurant recommendations saved us time and disappointment.
All of the rooms at Rio Vista had balconies which looked out on snow covered trees and mountains as well as icy rivers with abundant wildlife. It was difficult to break away from watching deer and eagles to go inside our rooms. Fortunately, the 6 person hot tub looked out on the same view. The rooms themselves had a TV, refrigerator and coffee maker. When we arrived they were very clean, the hotel itself is only a few years old. Occassionally, someone from our large party would have a minor complaint on how their daily housekeeping service was done. Ann was always willing to fix the problem, once she even went to a room to clean it herself. Our trip was cut short by one day when all the passes closed and Ann was very understanding of our need for an early departure to catch our flights out of Seattle. For our group, the only improvement would be a larger lobby area or gathering room.

Conveniently located is about the only positive thing I can say about the hotel Rio Vista. Well, that and you can see the river. The room we had was dirty when we arrived (dirty shower, toilet, floor)...our request for a new room was rudely dismissed. They did clean the room, but it took more that an hour! This hotel is plain, and simply not up to par with other hotels/inns in the area.

Winthrop is a small town with a western theme. The hotel was not anything fancy but very nice. All rooms have a private balcony with a beautiful view of the river. It was cool enough when we were there that we left the windows open all night and heard the water very peaceful.
No breakfast is offered, there is a coffeemaker and fridge in the room and plenty of bakeries and restuarants just around the corner. There were plenty of parking places at the hotel.
Would stay there again.
