They have great service, with a cozy atmosphere. The drinks were yummy, strong and cheap. Just the way they should be. Then the deep fried ice cream for dessert was delicious!!

We had dinner here during our recent trip to Winthrop. I was surprised and pleased at the menu. Many choices, and some unique offerings. We had shrimp and crab enchiladas and fish tacos, and both were very good. The vegetables were really fresh and delicious. Generous portions, and the staff were very nice and made us feel welcome. They also had some coloring sheets to keep kids entertained. Would go again.

What a fun place and so many dishes and tequilas to choose. I tried the Yucatan pork specialty cooked in banana leaves. So good with a rich sauce, loved the sweet corn cake too.

Best mexican food I've had at a restaurant. It was healthy too as they used fresh ingredients and included a good portion of steamed vegetables. I got an enchilada with Mole sauce. Price was reasonable. I think the dinner was around ten dollars. I was surprisingly pleased.

Expecting standard tourist town fare, we were pleasantly surprised by the food at Carlos 1800 Mexican Grill. The usual suspects are on the menu, but are a far cry from the tired combinations smothered in cheap cheese all-too-often encountered in small-town Washington state. The food we sampled on two visits seemed fresh, recently prepared and not at all greasy, with a number of interesting healthy and vegetarian options. The salmon fajitas looked intriguing. But we were attracted to the Yucatecan specialities, rarely found in this neck of the woods, since the owner is from Merida and we have lived in Campeche for extended periods over the past 40 years. Foods from the Yucatan Peninsula tend to lean heavily to pork and chicken dishes using different seasonings and cooking methods from the rest of Mexico, such as the achiote paste which dominates the banana leaf wrapped pibil-style suckling pig, and the sour-orange marinated poc chuc (grilled pork) barbecue. Green and chocolate mole sauces also are quite different from the Oaxacan standards. We found all the Yucatan signature dishes we sampled to be quite authentic, though the pibil pork seemed rather light on the achiote and a little heavy on the "secret family spices" (cinnamon? allspice?). Similarly the poc chuc was a tad sourer than we are used to, but the pipian (pumpkin seed) enchilladas and pork al pastor tacos with a pineapple glaze were bang on. Meals are served with tasty rice and refried beans. A la olla beans in broth and vegetarian beans are available on request. A small sweet corn cake accompanies each plate, among with guacamole, tortillas, chips and salsa. Portions are generous and you will not leave hungry. We stuck to beer to wash down such substantial fare, but noted other patrons consuming a wide range of mega-margaritas. There is a sister restaurant in Wenatchee not far away. Highly recommended.
